Who's into slot cars
So i took my 7 yr old to a slot car track 10 minutes from my house and they were awesome. They actually have a rental track and too big race tracks plus a drag strip. These things are freaking awesome and so fast. They have and insane amount of cars and spare and hopup parts.

Re: Who's into slot cars
Ha! I got into rc cuz I thought it would be cheaper than slot cars
Slot cars have been in my blood since the mid 70's with my first afx track and since then it snowballed. Pretty much the extent of it though with the vintage t-jet, AFX, collecting but have tons more from when we raced at the LHS. Never got into the bigger scales though since the bigger they are the more expensive they became but addicting still the same.
if you do a search for 'slot cars' in the Off Topic/Chit Chat section you'll find a few threads on it.

Re: Who's into slot cars
I know i cant believe how much some of the bare chassis cost! I found a cool starter one for 65.00 that im going to get for him to start with. Even the rental car he tried was pretty fast but the owner told me the beginner car is twice as fast as the rental car.

Re: Who's into slot cars
what scale are you talkin then? Or group or however they classify them around you?
There for awhile around the late 90's slot cars took off around here for a couple years then faded away again. I even ended up with the LHS track/timer/computer stuff when he moved to his new location. But then again, I'm only talkin HO/AFX, Tjet size cars...

Re: Who's into slot cars
Ahaa...we had a couple of independantly wealthy guys about a half hour from me in Sterling IL put up a track in a church. Went and watched a few times but backed out quick when I found out what kind of entry level money I needed. Then some of the guys that came and raced with us in slot cars and R/C put together some tracks and such in the same town. Never got up there to see their stuff once they boycotted the LHS though so never gained any traction with them. Good thing too since I can't seem to find enuf time for just ONE hobby as it ismikea96 wrote:Here is a link to there sight the place is really awesome! http://pacificslotcarraceways.com/ There were at least 30 guys there tonight for there races.

Re: Who's into slot cars
I started racing 1/24th slot cars in '91 on the King style tracks. Did some oval racing as well. Got my name in Scale Auto Racing News back in the day. I know, you are all impressed.
Around '99 I got into 1/24th drag racing and did that for a few years.

Drag racing was fun. If you just run bracket classes, you don't have to spend a ton of money, just need to have a consistent car.

I knew some comment was coming when I saw the thread title.slotcarrod wrote:Meh, slotcars are gay!![]()

I still have all my old slot cars, a bunch of AFX stuff and a few other brands. Every time I see a thread about it on here I want to dig it out and set it up.

Re: Who's into slot cars
I know I could really get into the group 27 wing cars, probably a good thing I haven't tried one.
