Pinion gear selection RC10T

I've been reading some of the forums they talk about updating to different pitch gears and a few trade offs, some seem to be geared towards speed.
I currently have an 16/87 on the car, I have an optional 64 but I noticed it's a slightly different gear (a little bigger actually so it might have come from a different car).
I just picked up the 13.5T motor and I will be running the 2S/5800mah batter.
Is there a recommended ratio that I should use for this. I want to balance a reasonable speed without overheating it. I was reading somewhere about wrong ratios putting too much load on the motor and battery.
I think the problem is I'm reading too much on these things and some of the information is old and some is new, but a lot if fragments

I would stay away from 32 or 64 pitch gears and stick to the standard 48.
Look through a few online manuals of stadium trucks to see what most recommend for a 13.5T... lets just use 7.5:1 as an example ....
Take the spur gear tooth count and divide it by the pinion, then times it by the transmission ratio.
87 spur ÷ 26 pinion x 2.25 = 7.53 final drive ratio.
So, in that instance you'd want a 26 tooth pinion.

The ratio make sense, I'm confused about the pitch though. How do I tell what I have? Both the RC10T and the RC10GT I have are stock spur gears.
As for the 2.25, I'm assuming that this table is what I should be using.

The RC10GT comes with 32 pitch gears and the RC10T comes with 48 pitch gears. 64 pitch is much finer and generally should only be used for onroad cars.
Correct, the RC10T would have a transmission ratio of 2.25:1. The RC10GT is 2.60:1

This is very helpful. I have ordered the gears (as I needed to order some other parts as well).
I know I've been asking a lot of noob questions but I am learning a lot and taking notes.

also if you are planning to race it, when figuring out your gearing make sure you only run it for 5-6 minutes at a time so you can accurately check the temperatures for race conditions
