Cougar 2 “factory” team edition

Post by Retro rc »

Ok so here goes my first try at posting on here
This is my first ever cougar bought it way back in 1990 and have owned it ever since
F993AD61-378B-4F1B-B174-012BEC863889.jpeg
I managed to pick up a sponsorship as a 15 year old with the local New Zealand importer (caprice hobbies) later that year and over a couple of years running for them the buggy went through several changes and this it’s how it has been left neglected since going to traxxas is 93ish.

These are one of the best looking buggies of the era. Restore it. I fought a Topcat around the track back in day. Cougar 2 Works always on my bucket list.

Here’s a couple of pics from the early days I manage to find hopefully the are ok as they are pics of pics. This was as a mk1 with the long front shocks

And this was later with cougar 2 upgrades ball raced steering and works rear suspension.

Also ran as a shotgun for a while too

Very cool pics from the 90s. I had made many pics from my cars in the 90s, but they got lost :(

Ok so here’s where I’m at this project started in 2016 when I first dug the old beast out after stumbling over Jeroens mad Carbon fibre works car on the net and thought I’d like to bring it back to life…. And that’s where the rabbit hole started. I’ve been collecting part ever since[ ( and a few buggies / projects aswell). Originally I was going to just do a clean up restore but have decided to go down a different tract hence the title of the build, hopefully it will make sense as I go along.

Take 1 very used cougar and add a few mew parts and a few original

And now the fun begins

Didn’t really take any photos of the rear end build.

New fibrelyte rear tower, rear bulkhead u1133 arms, u1129 pivot blocks and u1131 hinge pins, avid bearings and associated blue titanium turnbuckles. 10 points to anyone that can pick what the shock standoffs and wing mounts are.

Well it’s nearly a roller gearbox, shocks, fibrelyte battery brace and motor guard on, just the wheels, gear cover and body to go.

Roller is all done. still not sure wether to go further with the chassis at this stage, I might go totally different yet and use this one for a repro of my original cougar but we’ll see.

Also had a play around with a couple of old bodies I had laying around. Here’s my original cougar.
6CFFE793-2125-479B-8FC7-7BB113B4565A.jpeg
And an old Trx-1 body and it’s crazy how well it fitted without any cutting, might have to think about getting a couple slightly changed to put on a runner

Hope you you guys enjoy feel free to let me know if there’s anything that you think would look cool on this as well. Or just any feedback really.

Cheers Adrian

Nice Cougar 2!

I was a bit young, but I do remember the old battles between the Cougar's and the TRX-1's at Harewood. These were the preferred 2WD cars over Losi/Associated - I guess due to what was supported in the local model shops.

Why did you switch to Traxxas in 1993?
