RC10 Composite Craft Worlds build #2

Here we go again. I've had this NIP Composite Craft Worlds RC10 chassis for a few years. I was torn between building it vintage or modern. Since my first CC RC10 is mostly vintage with some modern touches, I wanted to stick true to one direction on this one.

I have decided to go vintage with this one. I'm building it in the style of a tinkering obsessed RC racer with some of the best aftermarket support that was available during the fluorescent period of the 90's. The CC Worlds chassis, be it car or truck, is one of my favorites. Something about the shape combined with the upper deck just looks so right.

I am still hunting for a few needed parts. Then I will begin opening packages from Composite Craft, RPM, MIP, Lunsford, HG, and more. Attention to all the small details is what seems to take the most planning, but it can make the difference in the end result.

Do you still have the short wheelbase version? Was that you?

I really need to get rolling on mine..... as well as other projects. But it think I'll have to calm the vintage racing down for that to happen.

Yep. I still have the short chassis & regular top deck, sitting in a bag. I may use it for a future build.

It's a used chassis I got from Aaron that was broken. I got that fixed up. Now it's just a matter of throwing parts at it. I have a good amount of what I need, some new, some used. It's just gonna get Dynotech arms. I do plan on racing it somewhere, though I'm almost at a point where I don't need more runners. But that's the plan.

I'm starting this build with the transmission. There will be very few stock parts used as most everything is an option piece. I am starting with an RPM 2.65 transmission case. This will require some careful modification to fit this chassis. Both the case and the RPM arm mounts will need to be reshaped.

I am determined to use the RPM case, and still run 64 pitch gears. This creates a big problem because the RPM case is 2.65 vs the Stealth at 2.25. To make this work I am using gears from different vintage Thorp kits. The Thorp top shaft provides everything I needed to make this all work - 64 pitch gears in 2.65 gearing, and a shaft compatible with a Hydra drive - or in this case, an upgrade to the upgrade by using a Schumacher Visco Drive. This is a really cool aluminum clutch that also uses different viscosities of fluid to suit track conditions.

I'll be using these beautiful aluminum outdrives, courtesy of Sofaking. I'm still waiting on a few small pieces, and then the transmission can be assembled.

Since you stated you are going "true to one direction...vintage" I figured you would want to know those Conklin aluminum outdrives are not vintage.

I am waiting on a few pieces to arrive before I can build the transmission. Here are most of the RPM parts I plan to use. I want the white (translucent) plastics to look icy fresh so I am using all NIP parts.

The coloring of the RPM translucent parts can change over time, probably depending on the conditions they are stored. It always catches my eye when pieces of different shades are used. My light box does a great job at enhancing any difference in shade, as well as making pieces look more yellow than they are. Shown below is the same RPM transmission case.

Any and everywhere. I've been collecting some of these parts for years, so please don't think I just found this stuff yesterday.

Yes, lovely pieces of plastic. So strange. Lol
I have actually traded my RPM center link as I decided to go a different direction on the steering. Yeah, grinding new pieces is always tough, but the end result should be worth it.
