What RC Tech has advanced the slowest (and remains relatively pricey)?
This is a two-part question. What RC tech has advanced the least in recent decades? Also, relatedly, what tech has not gone down in price much?
For example, the Spektrum DX3, was released in May 2005 the first RC 2.4 GHz pistoal radio as I understand. I'm confused why basic 2.5 Ghz radios with dual rate have not come down significantly. What have we been doing for 20 years in this area?

2.4ghz radios can be had so cheap it's not even funny, unless you want a name brand. The gool radios are perfect for budget cars and have all the features you want for a novice for far less than a name brand receiver only. I have a dozen of these and the even cheaper tx4 systems that I use for my cheap Tamiya kits. The price hasn't gone down on the name brand stuff because the demand hasn't gone down

My $20 RadioLink Receivers come with "Gyros" which help with keeping a vehicle going straight. Spektrum "AVC" receivers cost about 5 times as much.
You may be suffering from cultural lag which is preventing you from seeing that 2.4gz tech has come down greatly in price over the past 20 years.

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Associated RC10 re-releases... twice the price they were in the 90's for 35-year-old tech from Taiwan... Buy a Traxxas and get the same thing for half the price.
In all seriousness I don't think the slowing of RC Tech is a matter of cultural lag as much as the hobby maturing to the point advances can't come at the same pace they once did.
You get a lot for your money with modern radios and Futaba's 3PRKA, adjusted for inflation, is on par with the price of a Magnum Sport back in the day, but no one makes receives that will bind with competitors radio gear, plus, despite being able to make everything in the world wifi compatible no one makes 2.4GHz kits for AM/FM transmitters... those seem like tech that should exist.
It's all going to boil down to profitability, you can't advance a technology if there's no money in it.

Actually... I have a couple coming from buddy rc. They are make for spectrum or compatible aircraft protocol receivers which is really the only downfall I see and the price is quite affordable. I'll be taking it a step further and replacing the transmitter guts with a Arduino as well

Ooo, I do like a good actually... the word is almost always followed by something you didn't know. The Buddy RC kit is a lot smaller than the conversions from a decade ago so, that's an advancement.

Not much has to do with Tech but Stick Radio has been really pricey.
I see 3 options at the moment.
1) Futaba 4GRS, US$389 - amainhobbies.com - just got one
2) Futaba 7XC - US699.90 - rcmart.com
3) Sanwa Exzes Z3 - US$699.90 - rcmart.com
The 4GRS is based on Futaba 4pm. Futaba 4pm is only US$299.
7XC is based on 7PX, 7PX is only US$579.
Exzes Z3 is based on M17s I think, M17s at US$599
US$100 mark up because it is stick ?
