FTW Ten4.1 Monster Truck

Post by morrisey0 »

When I picked up a factoryworks.com Ten4.1 kit last year, I installed it on a FanRC FR01. I have no complaints about that car, but as soon as I was done with it, it hit me that I should have built a RC10 4WD MT Conversion. I almost took apart the FR01 to scavenge the parts, but I let it be. And it was just wasn't the right time to buy another kit during their initial run. But when Jeff sold off a few kits a couple of weeks ago, I finally had my chance! :D

I took a bunch of pics of the build for the first hour or so, then just went into build mode and didn't take any, and then wala, it was done for the day. Couple of small issues, but worked them out. The only really issue right now is that the front end is designed to be wide in the front (ya know, for a buggy), so once you put on same backspacing wheels all the way around, it is much wider in the front. Right now, I have 16mm deep hex adapters on the rear, and that is the absolute max I can go, and the front wheeltrack is still about 1/2" wider than the rear. It is what it is for now. As I just typed that I realized that I do have some JG pin drive wheels, so maybe I can eliminate the hex adapters in the front and drive off the pin and that may save me the 1/4" or so on each side. :? I will experiment with that.

I wanted to get to this point, so I could measure and order shocks. With the JG body mount in the front, I can run longer shocks, so it will end up with 1.32s all around. Didn't think about a body until I got to this point, and remembered that I had a few free teambluegroove.com truck bodies sitting around, and yea, the Kyosho Double Dare looks great on it IMO. Using the Clodbuster technique of using a smaller body makes it look more monster. Haven't thought about electronics yet. Right now I am thinking modern day, cheap, brushed set up, but hat may change.

AE CC chassis, FTW Ten4.1 Conversion Kit, TBG Kysoho DD body, JG body mounts and wheels, Tamiya Blackfoot tires, FanRC nylons/turnbuckles/shocks.

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

What about 10T rear arms and dogbones?

Or maybe some JG's, if you can find them.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

But then it isn't an RC10 MT conversion. :D I loved BITD, when the MT conversions were all the rage for a minute. None of them really looked good, but they looked unique, and I dug it. So, I really don't want to do much to this to make it "better" because I still want it to look like a buggy with some body posts, tires, and a truck body. I kinda feel bad for going with long shocks in the front, as the originals keeping the short stroke shocks on was part of the charm, and reminded you that this is just a fake truck. I still want this to look like a silly conversion, just a silly conversion with 4WD.
