Not that unreasonable of a price actually, considering it also covers the cost of the body. When I've had bodies painted I've never paid less than $75 + the body and usually it ran $100 + body.

I could see the finishing price as realistic IF the body was even remotely close to the actual box art paint job. That thing is missing colors, even. As a painter, I'm shocked.

I may be breaking one of the RC10 commandments here, but I think both of those paint jobs are ugly. I don't think the box art colors are that great to begin with, but both of those painters seemed to have found uglier versions of those colors. I could see paying that much for a beautiful Motion Graphics body, but not one of those stinkers.

I agree 100%. I think both of those suck. If you are trying to buy a replica box art body, those were both bad examples, that aren't even accurate. The one is missing the pink stripe, and the second has number that look like they were cut out with scissors.

Graphic designer by trade—print and web. I have been painting R/C cars since I was 13, long before I ever got into design. I feel really old, but that's just under 24 years of screwing with the stupid things.

FWIW, I did these when I was 17... that's about 20 years ago now. I don't think they are anything super special today, but we haven't come real far in 20 years of R/C painting.

Hey man, those are some nice paint jobs. I'm kinda like Hoopty, little patience for lexan. I'm a painter, and I work in an art gallery, but I don't usually spend much time on my bodies. Hard bodies I can get a really nice finish, and paint out the details, but I usually don't have much patience with the lexan. My "American Flag" RC10 body is probably the most elaborate body I've done so far. I guess on my next shelf queen body maybe I'll take my time and do something nice. Well, unless that sticker on your body that says "body $20, wing $40, paint $50" is still your going rate. Then, maybe I'll have to hire you to do a cool paint job for me.

Here's some painting I did, but on canvas. I don't do many cars anymore, but I keep this one hanging above me easel because I love F40's and it kind of motivates me to work.

That's beautiful work. Photorealisim is one of my favorite styles.

The only art paintings I have ever done have been with an airbrush. I never aclimated myself well to oils, acryllics or watercolors. Just never could work well with a brush, for some reason. Pencil, pen & ink are completely different, but paints... well, as long as compressed air is behind it, I'm cool.

that's awesome mel. i really had to look at it to make sure it wasn't real. great work.

i'm a painter, but just on real cars. i couldn't paint something on canvas to save my life, i'm sure. although, i've never tried.
