Motor issues

I need some help here guys. I have a truck that keeps eating motors and ESC's its getting costly to fix this thing. Its an XTM electric x-cellerator (my sons truck) it has always eaten motors and escs but since the motors were junk I figured they were junk so I got a better one. Anyway right now the truck has : esc- tazer 12t
Motor- epic 19t komodo dragon(bought in dec has about 40 runs on it)
hitec electronics (servo, reciever, & remote)
Batteries- sanyo 3600
I had to call Global hobbies for gear ratio set up and they wouldn't tell me the trans ratio only which pinion gear to run. It running a T4 spur gear(which they recomended) I don't remember the tooth count maybe 87( whatever stock is) and an 18 tooth pinion.
I am wondering what is going on with this thing is it the batteries I am using or what.
I have no volt meter for the batteries and keep in mind that when the truck was stock (20t motor and monitronics esc) it did the same thing. Please help me Im going crazy with this thing.

has the motor been cleaned, comm cut, brushes replaced, etc. in those 40 runs? if not, i can see why the motor is burning up. not sure about the esc, though.

you definately want to make sure that the drivetrain, and all of the bearings spin freely too.

ahhhh scrp I new youd come through. The answer to the question is yes it has been cleaned and oiled. Comm cut and brushes replaced no. I don't know how to do that.(darn girls don't know crap) and I don't know what the maintanence should be on them.

so then if I replace the brushes in it will it still work? Or is it toast?

well don't feel bad..... i don't have comm lathes and all that fancy stuff neither. i just have other people do it for me. but, that only works if you know people that have the stuff.

also, i'm no "motor guy" obviously, since i don't have the equipment to be one. but, usually when the brushes become discolored from heat, it's time to cut the comm and replace the brushes. or when there's gooves and discoloration on the comm.

i'm sure there's some other who could maybe elaborate on it a bit more.

Replacing the brushes will bring some life back into it. For racing, I never went past 5-7 runs without replacing brushes and taking a pass or 2 on the lathe.

Is the motor toast? Probably not. Would it be raceworthy...no, will it run (with just new brushes) yes.

If/when you get the chance, prowl craigslist or ebay for a mamba 4600 brushless system or one of the losi/novak set ups (like comes in their RTR brushless car/truck), they can be picked up around $100. There are budget brushless systems out there also, Traxxas, Castle Sidewinder, Novak something-or-other, LRP somthing-or-other, all good starter systems....with NO maintenance (well occasional clean up/oiling).

I have 3 brushless systems, a Losi/Novak 10.5 set up (out of the Losi XXT Brushless RTR truck, bought used for under 100), a Novak GTB 6.5 (bought new for 215-ish) and a Mamba 4600 system (bought new for 215-ish). I love the Mamba the best, for racing and playing around, it is just crazy fast, no matter what car I put it into. I will not go back to brushed motors unless I have to, brushless is the bomb.
