"Pure Stock" class for the 09 v-nats

Post by scr8p »

here's my quote from the other nats thread...........
scr8p wrote:i would like to see a "pure stock" class..... no matter what year the car is. pretty much box stock. 4 minute heats, old style tires/rims, esc's, motors, and some sort of spec battery. something like the duratrax 1900 nicad packs. but i don't see a bunch of people going out and buying 4-5 of those stick packs for one race. i would.
would this idea be of any interest? i did some looking around to get some prices on a "spec type" battery. here are some that i found (1700 nimh, 1800-1900 nicads). i'd say any of these would be legal, as long as the pack remains unaltered, except the battery plug would be able to be changed.

so, who'd be up for a class like this? i know temple would. :)

I'd love to do that. Would we be using old school radios and rx's too? (just to add some glitchy retro-ness)

i would personally like to see the entire setup be old school. but, i also understand that if you don't have to carry an extra radio with you to the track, why do it. especially for the guys that ship their equipment to the track...... it's just one more bulky item to try to make room for. most everyone by now has a radio with multiple model memory, so might as well utilize it.

if this would end up being a class, i know my car will be controlled with a ko propo ex-5. :)

Imagine that, a "vintage-like" race at a vintage race!

I'd be interested. I have no complaints at all about my first vintage nats experience, but I would like to see a class like this. A pre-2.2 tire class that is. Well, unless you're racing a Blackfoot, then you can run 2.2's. 8)

I was planning to buy a re-release Frog for the next race anyway. This just one more reason to do it.

While we're at it we can have a donut contest too! ;)
Seriously, I tried stock Hornet spikes at the 1st Nats and they're a nightmare on that track. Don't get me wrong-- it will be hilarious and I would be down for it in a heartbeat. It'll just be a very interesting 4 minutes. I have a few cheap 2300 sport packs kicking around if those could qualify.
BTW would 2wd and 4wd be separated?

it would most likely depend on the amount of interest. if there's only a handful or so that want to run a car/truck like this, they'd probably be run all together. no sense in spliting them up. i'd really like to see this type of racing take off (funny..... i say that as if it's something new  ), throughout all of the classes. it is a vintage get-together afterall.

i hear ya on the old tires, civilguy. when i took my halsey car out for a couple laps, those old aj's didn't hook up at all. but, it sure was fun tryin'.

Ok- now you're giving me second thoughts on what to do with the Traxxas Rad2 I just picked up for my nephews. It's bone stock and seems like it would be a decent entry for this class.
Maybe I can find them something else.

I'd definately be up for a 'pure stock' class. I would like to run a modern radio though. I do still have my 'vintage' Futaba Magnum Sport that I used to race the SE with back in the day if needed...

When did my hobbies become "Old" and "Vintage"???

-RPS Yokomo SE. Novak T4. Revolution stock. Hot Trick dual front shock setup.
-Kyosho Circuit-10 Wildcat Buggy
-Kyosho Nimitz-06. Now that's obscure!
-Marui Big Bear
