Re: My first car - Mardave Meteor

650cst shock oil seems to work - its also thick enough to stay in the shock with the crappy plumbers tape seal. I think the modified meteor article from june 1990 also reccomends some shock oil (prob 30wt motorbike oil). I went with 350cst pure silicone lubricant in the end, with some PTFE tape aro...

Re: What gear is this?!

I don't think it will be an easy part to find, if you find something you can use then share it please :) So I couldn’t find a replacement so made one instead with these two gears 1.0 Mod x 13 Tooth Metric Spur Gear In Hostaform 1.0 Mod x 22 Tooth Metric Spur Gear In Hostaform On a 4mm steel shaft, ...

Re: Hi from the Uk

Ok so it turned out the diff was both over tightened and quite dry. Also turned out there is a tiny grub screw in the other half that the main screw tightens against. So to loosen the diff just undid the main one, wound the opposing grub screw in a smidge (technical term) and then tightened the main...

Re: What gear is this?!

Thanks, I’d seen the manual but there isn’t a page that talks about the gear box sadly! I’ll hunt around for idler gears and see what I can find though!

Re: My first car - Mardave Meteor

The standard kit shocks were shown that way even in the press pictures. I think part of it was because they leaked - fairly good fix is PTFE tape when sealing them up.... and also because they open and fill from the seal end... you can in fact undo them in situ and top up or change the oil. Hi I’m ...

What gear is this?!

IMG_5181.jpeg This is out of the Mardave Meteor I’m reviving, the larger gear is really worn with the teeth at weird angles in places so I want to replace it, I don’t actually know the name for this type of gear. It’s fixed solid to the shaft, dimensions as follows: Shaft length 40.71mm Shaft diame...

Re: Hi from the Uk

…the differentials are adjusted with a screw that sounds similar in order to loosen it you might want to try turning it about a quarter turn and see if she loosens up a bit (also taking it apart and giving it a good clean if possible is always a good idea). The screw was really tight which was part...

Re: Hi from the Uk

Thanks for the replies. Surprisingly Mardave are selling parts again for the Meteor so it might be worth looking on their site , the parts are very cheap too . The shocks should be oil filled but I'm afraid it's been 30+ years since I've looked at them , Mardave still selling parts was partly the re...

Hi from the Uk

IMG_5136.jpeg Hi, like a lot of people I’m returning to the long lost hobby of model cars. I’m trying to nurse a neglected Mardave Meteor back to life, so far it’s going well and I’ve found spares for broken parts and fabricated others. Currently I’ve a few issues I’m hoping someone can kindly help...
