Anyone ever heard of a TC3 Nitro to Brushless Conversion?

Post by 67CamaroSS »

I know this isnt exactly vintage (yet) but has anyone ever heard of or done a Nitro TC3 to electric conversion? I know the chassis is a little heavy but maybe with a nice brushless set-up and the pan chassis you could have a good rally car.

I know it's been done on the RC10GT, so see no reason it wouldn't work on the TC3.

I've thought about doing this to my NTC3, I don't want to mess with nitro any more. Do a google search for "convert ntc3 to electric" or something along those lines and you will come up with threads on some different board where people have done it. One of them I saw maintained the 2 speed.

Really looks relatively simple to do, deciding on a motor mount seems to be the hardest part and even then there are plenty out there.
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.

i just asking why?
why not just get a TC3 on the cheap.
I remember when the TC3 came out Trinity had a conversion kit to nitro. needed a few gt parts. (i had the kit for free gave it away for free). you can get TC3 or like under 100?

Well, for me, I already have a NTC3, and I like doing custom stuff. Anyone can just buy a TC3, but then they would have an "ordinary" car. Kind of the same reasons I built a 230+ hp VW bug, would have been much easier to just buy a new Mustang...

Got ua. Not saying dont do it. Amd agree on the bug or going kustom. For me fenders and running boards over played

Now intrest peak what motor in bug. 230 isnt cheap in a bug.

2332 cc (94 bore X 84 stroke), custom DRD L7 CNC heads with 7mm stem Ferrera valves, PAC LS1 springs, Ti retainers, Pauter 1.5 rockers, 0.655" lift @ valves/ 310 duration cam, Manton RPs, 10.25:1 CR, 48 IDA carbs w/ 44m venturis, Berg Short manifolds with custom spacers for harmonic tuning, 1 3/4" A1 Sidewinder with custom Bullet muffler, Mallory Unilite with Promaster coil. Made 231 hp @ 7,500 RPM and didn't appear to have reached its peak. Probably would have made 240+ hp at 8k. Car only weighs ~ 1600 lbs, so it's enough to get it moving pretty good

Back on topic: I'll probably convert my NTC3 after I finish my RC10. I want to set the TC3 up for rally 8)

Did you see the documentary on the 55 Bug that went around the world 3 times? 'Once more' was on Discovery Channel, will be again later this month. Love old Bugs, wish I had space to buy one and restore it

I don't mean to jack your thread at all but...

Limestang, do you have more info on an RC10GT electric conversion. I've been looking for one but havent found one.

I started a ntc3 brushless conversion, but ended up going a different route. The electric conversion part would have been relatively easy, narrowing the whole thing down to a 190mm drift chassis turned out to be harder than I expected. I had planned on using etc3 center drive parts to do the conversion.
