Help! OLD Belt Driven RC w/Losi body

Post by iloveyourface17 »

Hello. I hope all are having a great holiday season. For one of my acquired gifts, I was given a belt/chain driven RC. I have attached pics. I know absolutely nothing about this truck and I am being told the buggy has been in the family for over 20 years. It doesnt run and I wouldnt know where to start. Help please? I can answer any questions to the best of my knowledge and post pics. Also with the truck, I acquired a Pro-tech Super Charger 700 AC/DC. It works surprisingly but what year would this be from? I have included pic of it and the box.

Thanks!
Brandy

You have an Optima (or a member of it's family-LOL!). This car was released with a chain drive system linking the rear gearbox to the front. You have some Losi shocks on the rear which may have been fitted the same time as the JRX pro bodyshell. This was my first r/c car back in the late 80's.

Woth fixing? I guess it depends on your taste. Are you into the old Kyosho's and do you have the time and resources to spend on it? These are the questions I ask myself.

Looks like you need a motor and radio to get it going. Looks like it's in OK shape from the pics. Can't tell what might be broken in the drive train. If you turn can turn all 4 wheels at the same time and the spur gear moves that's good. If it binds, or the gear doesn't turn, or the gear turns but only with the rear wheels, then it will need some work. If you are missing any parts or need to replace parts most can be found on eBay.

hello,

I think the optima is definately worth the restoration. There are currently plenty pf parts for these cars including reproduction bodies. Based on the pictures you provided, your car has the following parts installed:

proline front wheels
optima wheels
turbo optima arms
hot trick front brace (red part)
beagle motor guard
jrx2 rear shocks (and mounting hardware)
kyosho front gold shocks (hard to tell from the pic...could be duratrax)

Overall, an excellent base for a restoration. You'll need a gear cover, but those are pretty easy to find. The gear cover is the same one used on the ultima.

Regards,
highwayracer
