Thunder Tiger Phoenix CVD & Robinson RC10GT Metal Idler Gear

Post by Atlas »

I'm sure these have been done before, but I would still like to share:

Tried a set of Thunder Tiger Phoenix CVD (Part Number: PD9000) and they could be used as replacement for the RC10B2 CVD.

Also the Robinson Hardened Steel RC10GT Idler Gear (Part Number: 2213) will fit inside the RC10 Stealth Transmission.

HI!... So does anyone know if Robinson's #1513 hardened aluminum diff gear will fit in the vintage RC-10 Stealth trans?

http://www.robinsonracing.com/catalog/gt.html

I sent Robinson a e-mail a few weeks back about the #2213 steel idler gear, and they said 100% that it would not fit in the stealth trans. I guess they were 100% wrong lol!

no, the GT uses the 2.6 diff gear, same as the T2. It is larger in diameter than the 2.25 diff found in the original stealth.

RRP #1513 diff gear, I believe, fits the B4/t4 tranny.

HI!... O.k thanks. The original Stealth trans has a 45 tooth diff gear. The Robinson one has 52 teeth.

So their steel idler gear WILL fit in the original Stealth trans?

I have a question about the cvds. These will work with the stock length rear a arms right? I just installed a pair of rpm arms and would hate to have to change them again just to run these cvds. Second question is will these axles work with the original rc10 wheels? I have a set of hpi wheels on my gold pan and the current stub axle is tapered where the pin is on it. Thus the wheels have a larger opening where they meet this taper, same goes with the wheels I bought from treehugger. So basically I'm asking if these axles are the same diameter as the center hole on the rims I have?

1:
Yes they will work with the stock arms, The Phoenix is a B2 clone and
the RC10 and B2 used the same length CVD

2:
I used a bearing spacer, from my B2 hub, in the older wheels

3:
No but easy to solve with the spacer in the wheel

Thank you for the info. From what i understand of your answers the B2/TT axle is smaller dia then the axles used in the old RC10s?

Yes , The TT CVD axle are the same bearing size as the B2/3 and B4
so all the TT and B2/3 wheels will fit

There is a flanged 3/16x3/8" bearing that fit in the older hub

But If you switch to the newer B4 CVD you need the a B4 or B44 hub, can't remember witch, ore
if they work with the old arms

Hi Blokes,

I've done a conversion on my black tub stealth car, with the PD9000 CVD's and RC10GT hubs.

Seems the shafts are too long. They are binding in the diff outdrives, hampering full movement of suspension travel.

Any ideas of a work around for this? Different arms, hubs etc....? It's a nice conversion using available parts, apart from the spacing issue.
TRX-1, never low on street credit.

Do you still have the AE spacers in the diff? Try removing them, if not, ??
