I've been putting together a jrx-2 for runner duty. Just today I got the big jg bumper and the ESC. Both are items I had on my original as a kid.
The esc is a tekin 610. It was an ebay purchase. I got it all hooked up and found it has no brakes! Being impatient as I am I decided to have a go at fixing it rather than going through the expense of sending it in to tekin. I pulled out the brake fet, and took one out of a burnt-up LRP F1. Got it all together and amazingly enough now I have pretty strong brakes
I took it for a spin and it ran terribly, like the battery was almost dead. I though maybe I messed the esc up as I had a vintage mod motor that should have been plenty fast. Back to the workbench to figure it out. First replaced the esc and same thing, so I swapped the motor out for a speedgems 17t, and wow what a difference.
My wife must think I am nuts but I stayed outside for 5 minutes to run up and down the street, until my fingers started to get numb. It's a whopping 1 above freezing right now.
All I need is a runner body and wing. There was an antenna tube on it when I went out, but I flipped it a couple times jumping the berm from the driveway to the lawn.

Re: My JRX2 runner project
i have the exact esc that had a similar problem. the first fet in line right next to the brake fet is a temp-fet. that is a standard fet with a temprature cutoff circuit installed inside. mine was bad and would stutter when slightly warm so i pulled it out leaving in all the rest and it ran fine. since i am an electronic tech i used my work connections to track down replacement fet's. i wanted a serious upgrade so i found the lowest possible on resistance fet's i could find and replaced all of them and just substituded the temp fet for a standard one. as it turns out now it has a lower on resistance than my g-9. the thing rocks and now has killer bottom end due to the low drive freq. and upgraded fet's, larger wire and some other upgrades. you wouldnt happen to have the manual for it would you? i cant find one and tekin said their records dont go back that far so i guess its a fairly old model.

Re: My JRX2 runner project
Thanks for the info, unfortunately I do not have a manual for it. Not being in the industry, I can't imagine replacing all the fets. I had a hard enough time getting the single offset fet out, the rest of them are under a lot of solder with bent over tabs. Is there a special tool to heat all 3 leads at once?
Re: My JRX2 runner project
I have manuals for the 600XT, which may be the same unit, just with slightly older FETs.
I have 2 of the 600XTs - one in my graphite runner, which "coincidentally" also has no brakes ...still works great otherwise, though.
I'd love to be able to fix it so i don't have to use the other NIP one.
Anywaze, i scanned the teeny-tiny 16-page manual and uploaded it here -

Caution: LARGE Files! (over 1MB)
Some of the info may be useful for the 610.
