CAT 2K

Post by DennisM »

The last shipment from gomachv must have been contaminated -
All of a sudden, I felt a strong to build something purple ( Not Wear! )

GM V12 ESC - haven´t decieded on the motor yet, but something purple.

Those purple chromed plastic servo mounts really looks trick against all that cheap alloy.

Better pictures will follow after a sunny day.

Very nice...... very nice indeed!

Can I suggest, for motive power to match both the purple upgrades and the ESC, any of GM's purple alloy endbell mod motors? I have quite a selection of used ones, if you're interested.... they seem to multiply while I'm not looking!

Thanks Alex -

Yes, especially GM motors seem to do that

I´ve got a GM purple bull 2x15 but it seems a bit young?
Then I´ve got a Corally with a purple Yokomo endbell, it looks cool, but 3x13 could be a bit much for the v12 to handle :D

Was it a purple bull You had in mind?

Nice chassis thus far, Dennis! Gotta love purple. 8) It looks a lot better than the pinkish anodizing you see on Sakura cars, IMO. I actually used Schumacher and HPI purple titanium turnbuckles on my Barney Optima.

Interesting alternatives for the standard motor and shock mounts. Was much modification necessary? Also, how different are the shock mounting positions compared to the standard EC positions?

The only thing modified is the rear shock tower, that´s a cut down CAT 3K.

The motor mount/rear diff carrier is SST 2000 which made it necessary to ad 8 pc of 3,4mm spacers on top of the CAT 3K upper diff housings.

I´ll check up on the laid down shock positions as soon as I dig out the well used originals.

Edit:
Hence using the SST diff/motormount, I have no screwholes to mount the lower part of the original 2K shock tower or the suspension pin crossbrace for that matter. So I had to file a bit of the topdeck rear (ears) to be able to use the 3K mount for the shock tower.

Don´t know if I´m making any sense

The front shock tower is from the touring car version of the CAT 2000. It is supposed to be used with very short shocks mounted on the front of the wishbones to lower the chassis for on road racing.

Thanks Terry.

I received a good mix of shock towers with a well used CAT 2K 3-5 years ago.
I built a "normal" suspension, back then - and now trying to build a laid down version.

Would You happen to know if the carbon A-brace is correct for laid down?

Based on the pictures and responses above, are the following non-stock Schumacher parts used?

Transmission
U2034 Alloy Rear Trans Hsg 3PCE - SST
U2164 Alloy Top Trans Hsgs, Low-SST

Front suspension
U1555 Ultra Short Front Shock BKT - CAT 2000

Rear Suspension
U2275 Upper Suspension Mount - CAT 3000
and
Maybe a modified U2267 Rear Med Shock Mount - CAT 3000

Yes, the carbon brace is correct for the laydown shocks, the actual shock mount is tiny as you can see on my EC
