My original race car - Yokomo Works 91 (i think?)
This is my original race car as hauled out of the loft over the past couple of days.
I originally had an 870c in around 1989 and then upgraded to this (still got the former). We raced it hard and the car got modified quite a bit. I eventually came 3rd overall in the RadioRaceCar National Series in '91 with this, almost exactly as it stands.
Time has made things somewhat hazy so if you can point out any mods or curiosities then i'd really appreciate knowing what I have. I was the driver and my dad was the engineer. I can see the ribbed motor mount and the RPM bulkheads/diff housings. I think the chassis might be an aftermarket item(?) and the top plate is a custom job too, with dad having added the rear belt tensioning tie-rod almost immediately after we got it.

Few other bits and bobs.....
Magazine results from some time in the '91 season.
Some custom alloys for the Yokomo, note the lack of fittings required on the outside. They were secured via grub screws tightened via a small hole in the outer rim beneath the tyre. These were periodically skimmed to keep them mirror fresh (probably monthly) but are now a little tarnished having spent a couple of decades in the loft.
A bit of horsepower, most of which I had forgotten about until this morning!
Close up on the ribbed (heat sink) motor mount. I believe this is the same item as ran by the UK Team Yokomo drivers, including Craig Drescher?

Some shots of my much modified RC10 for reference. Note the full Yokomo front and rear suspension conversion.
I've just started a thread on this car in the main RC10 forum section.

Re: My original race car - Yokomo Works 91 (i think?)
that's very likely a 93 chassis, or at least styled like one. 91 chassis had the cells angled inward from back to front.
your arms I think could have been any from 91-93, there are some subtle differences but they are also hand lightened. both the 4wd and the rc10 custom.
kyosho gold shocks on the yoke. rpm front and rear bulkheads. not sure on motor mount.
it looks like the rc10 is pretty much all 91-93 suspension and mounts. chassis on that car is really hard to see with the belly pan on.
wheels on rc10 could be HPI or JCracing?

Re: My original race car - Yokomo Works 91 (i think?)
Thanks for the reply and info!
I will try to get some pictures of both chassis from beneath, but yes you are right I think about the '91 chassis as I have the original sat here, complete with angled battery cut-outs. Correct?
Someone has identified the ribbed motor mount as an MMS item?
Option House shocks, yes that's correct.
Again, just been told that the wheels are indeed JC.

Nice car and particularly nice alloys that I haven't seen before
Your motor mount is an MMS item. Here's a photo of mine on my Works 92 ex UK Team drivers car

Re: My original race car - Yokomo Works 91 (i think?)
That's great input. Many thanks for that. Your car looks nice - very clean build.
I will get the alloys lightly skimmed to freshen them up and mount them up again. They looked amazing when mirror shiny.
Are you able to identify the top plate on my car? Is it just a standard item that has been cut down or something different? There is also an adjuster to tighten the rear belt, and a tie-rod across the front suspension as well.

Re: My original race car - Yokomo Works 91 (i think?)
Not sure on the top deck but its probably an after market one thats been cut down to suit. The rear adjuster was found on the later yz10 models as standard. The tie rod across the front 1st appeared on the 93 models, basically gives you a bit more protection for the front bulk head in the event of an accident..it reduces the chance of the wishbones from being pushed out and breaking the bulkhead and instead usually just breaks the arm instead!

Re: My original race car - Yokomo Works 91 (i think?)
I've dug out my old Yokomo chassis (looking very sorry for itself), plus a couple of other magazine references from the '91 National Series.

Well I just worked out I was racing this Yokomo as late as 1993, as here's the proof! FTD at the Donisthorpe round of the RadioRaceCar Nationals.

Few (rather poor) shots of the underside. What aftermarket chassis is this??

Wheel selection from the loft - all sorts here by the look of it.
Last ones are unused.
