Tamiya”ish” F-150 2wd Baja Truck

Post by tecnica2001 »

The Start:

I've always liked the Tamiya F-150 body, since it was my first rc car (Blackfoot) and I've always wanted to do something out of the box with it....I've had this body for a couple of years, not knowing what to do with it, until I had this leftover Lunchbox transmission, that I couldn't stand just seeing sitting there. So there was born an Idea....

What's it made off??

Lunchbox transmission
1/14 King Hauler front drop axle
SCX10 frame rails
GMade R1 Tube Chassis
RC4wd 1.55 wheels and tires
RC4wd King Shocks (had laying around)
Tamiya Blackfoot Body
and Other bits and pieces from other cars that I also had laying around.... :D

Part 2:

The bottom holes for the tube chassis and the frame rails line up almost perfectly....

The front end was 4 linked using Fox C hubs and the transmission was flipped around, to allow me for an easier 4 link set up....

As you can see, the rails and the tube chassis match up almost perfectly....I had to cut the rear section of the ladder frame as it was too long for the body...

Here are a couple more pictures, I wanted to bolt the Shocks to the R1 cage, but decided to use SCX10 front shock mounts...also used a leftover panhard truss for the SCX10 an a truss for the front Tamiya drop axle...

You can also see the Stealth magnetic led body mount, these allow you to just snap on the body without body clips and also serves as a lights connector, avoiding having to plug and in plug your lights every time you take the body off😁

- Gave Starlord a bit of a raise, he was to low on the body
- Installed an adjustable motor plate and a 20t pinion.
- And the under belly of the beast....😁😳

Made lights for the light bar out of fake Tamiya lamps, F150 yellow lenses and grills/protectors, mounted it on the chassis using and aluminum square tube....I tried to space them out as best as I could, I thing they came out pretty darn awesome😁

Made a receiver box out of an Axial receiver box, and an esc tray out of styrene, that hides the esc nicely under the receiver box, can barely tell is even there...👍

Made a drop bed to hide the CW01 transmission and motor...I’m planning on adding some gas cans from a holiday buggy and maybe a couple of Grasshopper wheels with 1.55 tires as spares....

Great stuff , really well done , I don't think I've ever seen a grasshopper axle on as smooth a suspension system before ! A nice scale build !
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Thanks,

It actually flexes and articulates a lot for what it is, the key point is mounting the upper links as high on the chassis as they are on the transmission.... I tried mounting them lower, and there was basically no movement...

Looking at the rear of the truck it felt unfinished, I was planning on just painting the tail lights and be done with it, but since I've been bitten with the styrene plastic bug, I decided to make up a rear bumper.....me being the rc recycler that I am, I used a couple of broken light buckets that I had in my junk yard, and a jeep tail light from a newbright body, and I'm happy to report......there's something back there now.... :D

What's a Baja rig without some gerry cans, again, left over cans from a holiday buggy, that for some weird reason, I had 3 of them, and installed them in the bed using rare earth magnets to attach them....

I finally got my MCI Racing decals, they’re basically Blackfoot decals with the Blackfoot lettering printed separately, and I change the red to silver and voila!!!
