spur gear needed for RC1

Post by tvr4 »

I have an Associated RC1 nitro RC car kit and am in need of the large spur gear.

The parts manual list it as 820-65 "Autolube spur gear 65 teeth"

Is it possible to purchase this gear or something similar?

Thanks

Message reign79 as he is Mr Associated when it comes to early 1/8 Associated on-road cars, he's on here and also facebook but he'll probably see this sometime soon.

You might be able to find something that's a currently produced equivalent. It's a simple shaft mount spur gear from the looks of it.

You'll need to know a few dimensions along with the gear pitch for example. Gear teeth also have different pressure angles (Generally 14.5° or 20° in this size range.) but who knows what Associated went with in this application.

If you search around the net, there's a lot out there in the way of these particular gears.

I did that already and found nothing. The gear is 65T and 25P
It is a simple set screw that holds it on the axle shaft

What's the bore diameter? I'll look at the places I buy gears from. You might have to settle for an all metal gear or one down a tooth.

Those are odd specs overall. I wonder why they didn't go with something more standard. I'm having difficulty finding anything as well. I can find gears that would work in 24P but nothing in 25P. There doesn't seem to be 25P gears in general.

Agreed. Maybe it was standard back then. I don't know

But could I use a 24P gear as long as it was 65T ?

The kit came with an optional 63T gear but I do not know the specs and we did not have one

Here are a couple of pics I found online of the gear mounted on the vehicle
