Texas Winter Storm

Post by limestang »

I’ve lived in Texas since 1986 and haven’t seen weather like what we’re having this week. Houses and power grid not set up for this. Frozen pipes, no power, store shelves bare, no gasoline, hotels booked, roads treacherous, etc. I even had snow in my attic that blew in through the roof vents, but do have partial water and electricity. Pease say a prayer for the many others who don’t. Some of my co-workers have 20 degree homes and no water.

Y'all be careful over there.

We lucked up on the eastern Gulf Coast, the worst of it missed us.

But you are right, southern homes and infrastructure aren't built for long runs of extreme cold weather and snow. They are built for the opposite, heat, humidity, and hurricanes.

Kinda like when hurricane Sandy hit hit the northern east coast. A friend from up there asked me what we did for a cat 1 hurricane, I told him that I went to work.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

I couldn’t imagine being without heat/electric and water in temps like this. Almost makes me want to go buy a generator to power up a heater in case of an emergency in the future.

I’m not that far from you, I think we barely hit single digits a couple times now. But I don’t know if we’ve been above freezing in close to a month.

Yup, hit 26 F here today and I broke out the thong and washed the car. I think you guys got more ice than we did. I'll take snow over ice for sure.

When we first moved in this house 20 years ago the power went out every time the wind blew. At some point they changed something because now it hardly ever goes out. I probably shouldn't say anything as I might jinx it. Now as I sit at my computer I feel like the power could go out any s
