Best Kyosho Score In....?

Post by FasterLouder »

Haaa, I got lucky. Again.
This has to be the best Kyosho score I've had since I bought a closed hobby store's dead stock.
I'd bought a pretty rough Turbo Mid three or four weeks ago and uploaded a photo of the box to Facebook, before it sold.
Someone replied "I've got one of those".
"What, a box like this"?
"Oh no, the whole car. I've been thinking of selling it, but I don't really know what it's worth, make me an offer."
"Would NZ$250/US$120 take it"?
"NZ$300/US$140 and it's yours".
"What's your bank account number..."?

It arrived today.
I'll let the pictures do the talking, from here on, but I have to point out that the kit wheels and tires were never used. He bought two pairs of Optima rear wheels and fitted them with some Kyosho Dunlops, which I've never seen.
He didn't use them long, because he spied some drift wheels and thought sliding around in his garage looked fun.
The Parma peak detection device is cool AF.
I have a brand new, box art body that I was going to use on my other TOM, but now I'm going to clone that into an SE. :D
All images in the catalogue are vibrant and is for sale or trade.
I have photographed every page, but I'll just upload a few pages, here, because this post is all about the car.

Check it out, come join me in unboxing it.

Think I'll sell the box, catalogue and the Optima wheels with the Dunlop tires.
Anyone know what they're off. I think he might have had tape on them, or traction compund-the tread is a little sticky, but nothing some Goo Gone won't fix.

As for the other Mid that slipped in, well.

New Zealand is a magical place. It can seem like a large country, sometimes a small one.
But, it never ceases to amaze me what some people have stashed in attics and garages.
I once sold a Ford Capri part to a guy and he said "You might like this", as he walked to his garage.
There was a car under a cover.
He slid it off and sitting in front of me was the ex-Allan Moffat Ford Capri RS2600!
He even started it!

Anyway.
I met a guy on Facebook who was restoring a Triumph. I mentioned I'd restored one, a while ago and still had some parts.
He asked me if I had any front shocks.
I did.
This is what he traded me for them, and a few other bits.

I cleaned everything up nice, bought some Marwan tires and it's a really nice little Mid! Got a Marwan body and decal sheet on the way. I reckon this is the best looking SWB Mid of them all.

The other Turbo Mid I scored a few weeks ago is mocked up on a regular Mid chassis, but I have a new OT-98 chassis coming on it's way for it.
I think I'll buy some Platinum shocks, SE wheels and clone an SE.
I'll have every SWB Mid, then. :D

The "new" Turbo Mid is such an origional car.
Only needed a gentle wash and the shocks cleaned and topped up.
Here it is, before and after a 30 hour 11 am-7am 30 hour "rebuild".
I love it.
My white Mid is coming along, need to solder the motor wires on, but I was exhausted.

I tried some CRC Tyre Cleaner on the tyres and they came up like new! Best tyre/life hack ever!

Anything 480 is better than 240, right?

I used CRC 2-26 to clean and protect my 35-year-old AFX slot car track from corrosion after building a permanent layout and was really happy with how well it works. I'm gonna have to look into their tire cleaner product.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3

I had a moment of weakness and picked up a Turbo Optima kit.
I now have a gaggle of Optimas.
The SE build is getting really close, new chassis, arms, uprights, upper chassis, belt covers, bumper...but boy I am in need of some platinum shocks.
If anyone has some?
