The unlawful sibling of the Samurai is a Dolphin.
I hope to run it out of the hobby room for the first time next weekend. It has loads of personal touches and reinforcements (most invisible) but no nylon chassis. I wish it had though after seeing your work. Splendid!

White parts are all Printed in Polycarbonate except the main chassis that's original and painted.

The Chassis is on the way though as you may have seen in my 3d printing thread , the final version is printing now and if its as good as think it will go in Shapeways with the rest of the parts :D

I ran my dolphin for the first time at a vintage event last weekend. The drive train : super efficient and incredibly silent : the opposite of my expectations for a chain drive. Nothing got permanently damaged either but it popped out a front dogbone within 30 seconds from the start and a rear wheel came off in the the practice round. It quickly became clear the front end needs travel limiters to reducie the chassis roll in corners. And I lost the rear wheel again in the last minute of the heat.
Overall I'm clearly not ready but it lasted and shows itself worthy of some more effort on my side.

Popping drive shafts and wheels falling off sounds exactly like my memory's of racing

I ran a falcon in the other heats of this class : 5 runs without even having to touch a single thing. It wasn't quiet a stock falcon of course but still did a much better job than my turbo ultima i ran in another class. Granted the ultima went faster but managed to drop out of the race nearly 5 out of the 7 heats

Quick update - shapeways GB received a few weeks ago, bearings last week. Put it all together in a messy saturday morning. Finished product is not as pristine as the shining examples in this thread.... but the GB came together really well, and the 35 year old gears mesh better than ever. Charging yesterday, waiting for a dry day with my 7 year old to go take it for a rip!

Agreed on some of the bearings seats... a little tight but with a soft mallet whack they all went together, the rear diff feels like the bearing seats could probably be drilled out just a little more but I didn't want to risk causing anything to get loose, so just went with it as it showed up.

Also worth noting this thing wont have run in 4WD since about 1990, looking forward to that. any recommendations on a replacement motor that won't pull the car apart? :)

Glad its all together again as it should be :D , motor wise if its brushed I'd go 21 turn or more or if its brushless then 17 turn is pretty safe .
