Now! Some questions:
-Do I need a custom motor plate or will std fit?
-Will the Worlds gearbox fit?
I think you can use a standard motor plate if you cut the plate at the bend. Cut the whole bent part off of it and it would work.
If the kit you have is original and not my reproduction that it will only except the 6 gear

6 gear or MIP, but not the FW. MIP will need a hole drilled in the other side of the case to flip the top shaft. Alternatively you could also reverse the rotation of a mod motor, or use a Hyperdrive belt spur gear so you don't have to modify the MIP trans (or motorplate). The pinion and spur gears will be on the left side of the car that way.

Great! As to Hyperdrive belt - is this hard to find? Vintage stuff or new? What should I search for?

They're vintage parts. They come up on eBay by searching for Hyperdrive, but, except for the pinion pulleys, the parts aren't cheap. :?

Maybe I should also mention that the belts wouldn't be a great choice if you plan on running the car.

Then definitely don't got for the Hyperdrive belts. It's my understanding you can reverse the rotation on brushless motors pretty easily so there's no need to modify the trans cases or motor plate.

I built and raced a Tekin MID some years ago, and I had to use my Tekin RS ESC to get it reversed. None of my other ESCs could do it. But maybe most ESCs now can do as well.

Here's that car:

I also fly planes and 3D helicopters. Those use non-sensored motors, all you need to do there is swap two wires. But for cars with sensored motors it's not that easy, the ESC must support it. There's also timing on the motors, which normally only is prepared for one direction.

Has anyone tried swapping A and C and reversing the sensor cable? Mechanical timing would obviously have to be 0 unless you could go into retarded timing.

Hmmmm... would need to google that, never heard about it.

I still have the Tekin RS so I should be covered there at least.

Very nice!

Have you considered doing the 6 gear mod to add outdrive bearings? Just asking since this looks old like it's going to be a racer.

Thx!

I've raced it. Also in the Gold pan. Never had any issues.

Never heard about that mod...

I don't have any old bearings to sacrifice, so I spend way too much time making a pair of brass sleeves. I hate to destroy 2 new bearings for the inner races.
