Survivor 1983 Porsche
My dad’s best friend he had for his whole life developed pancreatic cancer 4 years ago and offered me the car.
It wasn’t running and was stored in his garage for six years. I flat bed towed it from his garage to mine. There it sat for another four. This last summer I cracked in. Found 2 gallons of fuel and oil in the crank case. That was troubling at first. I moved on. Oil change, air filter…I put a whole new OE ignition system. Drained the fuel tank. Replaced the tank strainer, fuel filter, pump, lines, and had the injectors cleaned and flow rated at RC injector service.
Still, she wouldn’t run right. Flooded to hell. I got out the noid lights, did fuel pressure tests, compression tests, vacuum tested the fuel pressure regulator and diaphragm. No change.
I hooked up my 1960’s Kenwood tube oscilloscope and when I probed the injectors. I found the pulse width was basically 1s on 1s off. This was controlled by the engine computer. I bought a new PCM on eBay and bam pow bang. After half a mile of clearing out the fuel she ran. Little putt putt around town. She passed smog and runs like a very fine machine. I put some Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires on. No plans for it. I’m just going to drive it on weekends with my family.

Bought by a US service member at the 82 German auto show and imported here

Looks in very nice condition , most of them you see are ragged out and scruffy as hell , that's the VW engine one isn't it ? A lot of people don't like the VW connection but it's easier to get spares for and cheaper than Porsche parts I'll bet .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

The Porsche 944 engine is a from scratch design by Porsche.
The Porsche 914 engine is a VW motor.

Sorry my mistake , not really up on my Porsches .

The story goes that the 914 went mid engine and lost a lot. So Porsche took a VW and rebadged it the 924. It was never considered a Porsche by enthusiasts. The first front engine rear drive Porsche. The 944 got a bad rap for being the same format front engine rear drive. But the 944 was all Porsche and coming right after the 924 with a shared interior people still lump them together. In reality the bodies, engines and almost all most parts were redesigned between the 3 cars.
