Slow charge, slow discharge, slow charge, slow discharge, slow charge, slow discharge, etc. I did that with a couple of old packs I picked up at a flea market. One responded very well :D , the other improved quite a lot :) but still wasn't functional :( so it is used for photos only :P .

Should I use one of the new chargers or my old one. My old charger works very well still.

Good question. I don't know the answer. My chargers are not "new", but not vintage either. They have a discharge mode, so I use that. It allows me to set a cutoff voltage. You could simulate it with a resistor bank, motor, etc. but you will have to be careful and monitor it. I think the key is to discharge the battery almost completely but without going to the point that a cell actually reverses voltage. NiCads will do that. The weakest cell in the pack can go below 0 volts.

Discharging cells independently is even better. Back in my racing (ok, crashing) days, I used car tail light bulbs soldered together to discharge packs after races. To revive a pack, I would place a light across one cell, watch it go from bright to dim, and disconnect, then do another cell until done. Some guys were smart enough to bring 6 discharge lights and do all at once.

There are quite a few folks on here who can give a better answer I am sure. Maybe start a new topic to get eyes on it.

Thank you for your help. I will try some stuff and do a forum search.

An MIP counter gear OT-85 replacement. This gear is most probably .8 mod and has very smooth gear face.
And a pair of printed center gears OT-85 ( MJF PA12 ).
MIP & center gears.1.JPG
Kyosho's OT-86 gear faces look more like a meat grinder or medieval torture device.

Not so sure the center gears are the ultimate solution though. I know almost nothing of possible longevity.
