Re: The Halgar Tad All About Nothing & Off Topic Thread......
I told the technician I was using it when I was teaching web design. And I was. But I quit teaching last year.
This site does possess tons of knowledge and would be a great source for those in electronics.
But my boss (and an excellent one he is) sees most forums as a way to socialize. And we don't block forums as a whole, just certain ones. His biggest concern as most of us in IT is bandwidth. If we had it to spare, facebook and myspace would be allowed once again and youtube would not be throttled back.
We are working on a deal that would bring 1 gigabyte of throughput to the college (up from 30 megs) but there are hurdles we are not ready to jump. If/when that happens, we will open the doors up and it will be up to the instructors to limit the students access.
Filtering will only be used then to assure the network is not being used to spam and employees are actually doing their jobs and not playing.....on......sites......like......social......forums.
Would you look at the time. I guess I better get some work done.

Good point. I'll just through some acronyms or techno-babble in my responses and we will call it remote assistance to insurmountable network issues related to defaults in the progress of technological advancements that could hinder the security and well being of all internet related transmissions. That would affect us big time and therefore be work related.
