TC's RC10 Project X (now with build list)

Post by Toasted Coastie »

So in the begining, I found this site looking for information on a car I had received from my cousin. That car was a Yokomo 870c that I completely bastardized by getting aluminum one off parts created by my good friends Frank and Chris at New Era Models. thanks to this site, I have an awesome classic.

Now it is time for something new.

I put an ad in my companies electronic want ads page looking for an original RC10 Gold Pan car. The ad was answered by an employee at a different facility from me. An original gold pan set up for oval racing with tons of spare parts, radio, esc, servos and motor. I pick it up Saturday morning.

In preperation of receiving this car, I have asked Vintage AE for his permission to do something similar to what he did in this thread: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=9310

He said it was OK, and gave me his complete build list.

Depending on the overall close up in person condition of this car, I may just do it.

I also have created a Project X build binder including the original manual (second version) as well as the Stealth transmission manual (if it doesnt have one, I'll be looking for one).

I'll post pictures as I get things done in this thread. I'm pretty excited to do this build, but If I learned anything with the Yoke build, it was to take things slow, and do it right. I'm going to take this one slow.

I want to thank everyone here ahead of time. I know I am going to be asking a lot of noob questions during this time, so I will also say sorry ahead of time. I find this to be a very calming hobby for me, and I want to thank this site.....

Thank you,

Ron

Good luck, I will watch with interest. You asked permission? Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery!

All right, so this project is on its way. Picked the car up, and it's a beauty. Did the complete tare down, and the pan, nose peice and motor mount is at New Era for powder coating. All white parts are sitting in peroxide. Pictures of the original later today (pre tare down).

The guy I bought this from used to work in fabrication at the company I work for and had this real trick steering set up. He had tons of parts in plastic tubs, all labeled with the bag number the parts came in.

I also got the Futaba Junior controller and a Hi tech battery charger, as well as a 1950 Ford cover and the original cover. 3 boxes worth of stuff, including the original box it all came in.

It is a 6 gear tranny, so I am looking for a stealth now.......

 that's what I said. I'm am flattered and honored 8)

I like the hot trick bellcranks, I would hang on to those for another project if you are not going to use them on this one.

I like the hot trick bell crank, but they don't go along (color wise) with what I want to do. Looking to see if B4 bell cranks would do the job. The original bell crank is still in its bag in the box.....

And it is taking shape.

I have a good portion of the parts coming in this week, and should get a lot done this weekend. However, the screw kit is on back order, so I have to wait for that. Bummer. Unless any of you have the FT 4-40 blue anodized screw kit kicking around......

I think it should have been stripped first. I would find out what happened. I'm not sure if it affects the durability of the powder coat or not, if not, I wouldn't worry about it. Although, it might effect the hold sizes slightly.

Yeah, I'll talk to him this weekend. I'm at a standstill until the screw kits come in, which I am convinced it won't be until next month.

The bonus is that the wife said I can buy a work bench for the garage...
