New to the forum and just wanted to first say thanks for all of the contributions to the forum. This place is great!
Restoring a few of my gold pans and found a great little trick to cleaning parts. I guess we've all used toothbrushes to get rid of a lot of the grime. But I found that a Water Pik filled with diluted Simple Green or Purple Power does an incredible job in getting the dirt out of the tiny areas. If you soak the parts first then use the water pik most of the grease and dirt come out.
Thanks and I forward to being a part of the forum.

Does anyone have any advice for cleaning these bits up or are they best left as is, with a nice protective oxidised layer on the surface?
Thanks.

oxy clean and warm water always works. just make sure you wear some rubber gloves. that stuff could be irritating under the skin, if you have your hands in it for a while.
if you have oil or other greasey crap on the part, clean it off first....

Yep, should've been more specific. Definitely turn the drying cycle off and if you can't just wait for it to get there and take them out for it. The latter is what I had to do and what do the say...what she don't know won't kill me  ...err,...

I took some old white parts and put them in the silverware basket of my dishwasher. Then I used some dishwasher soap that had some oxidizer mixed in. The parts came out great. Just be carefull to make sure the parts won't fall through the basket.
