LiPo to fit vintage battery trays

Post by dldiaz »

Can anyone recommend a currently available LiPo battery that will fit nicely in the stock battery tray of an RC10 or a JRX-2?

I bought a cheap LiPo intended for the 1/16 Traxxas models, but, it's just too small for even the smallest 1/10 scale battery tray - I might wrap it with a little bubble wrap (to fit snug) for use it in my Grasshopper...

SPC makes some very nice, well built packs that should fit no problem. As long as you keep your battery in the range of 5K to 6.5K in 7.4V configuration. Check them out here: http://www.spcracing.com/index.php?categoryID=13

I suggest getting the 5K 7.4V pack as I know it will fit with no problems and has plenty of juice.

SMC packs fit great. I use them in my T4, SC10, and 10T. I had to move the battery tray up a bit and use double-sided tape to secure it to the chassis but the width is perfect.

I have the 4100mah packs...long run time even with a 10.5 Brushless. Barnfloor.com has them at pretty good prices.

Any of the "car-shaped" lipos designed for 10th scale cars fit nicely into the rc10 trays... they were slightly too large for subc's, they're perfect for lipos :)

Yes, I suppose this question was more for my JRX-2's - the battery tray seem to be a bit smaller than the RC10's, my LiPo's don't quite squeeze into the JRX-2 tray...

As stated above the SMC packs work great. Here's a 3s option. I have footage of this pack in 3s and 4s in a Boomerang with a Castle 4600kv, but have yet to upload to youtube due to scheduling conflicts... 8)

In my LXT (molded chassis) I can easily fit the Orion 3200 & 3600 packs. I cannot fit my Reedy 5K or Checkpoint 5.4K batteries though.
