HobbyPartz ESC and Motors
HobbyPartz ESC and Motors
I have an RC10T3 with Stealth tranny and wanting to install a Hobby Partz 10T, 12T or 13T Leopard ESC/Motor combo. Have any of you guys used these ESC/Motor combos? Thanks for your time.

Re: HobbyPartz ESC and Motors
I have been looking at these the last few days as well, there are lots of reviews on the EZRun systems online and on YouTube. I may give a milder one a shot this summer, see if I want to go that route to transition from brushed motors.
The 2.4GHz radio systems are very intriguing. I've talked to some of the guys at my LHS about them, one in particular is totally open about getting better deals online, stuff they don't carry, etc, and apparently they are perfectly good systems. $20 for a basic radio, $50-70 for radios with LCD displays and multi-model memories, and $8 for extra receivers. I will definitely be picking up one of the better radios and a slew of receivers, and then a cheaper radio for friends to use, and put the rest of my older stuff in a lot on EBay. I like the idea of not having 5 transmitters on my shelves, and roughly the same number of receivers.
If you want a good chuckle, look at the radios on HobbyPartz and HobbyKing and probably some other sites, and see how they kind of look exactly like each other but with different stickers. Or how much their really cheap servos look an awful lot like some name-brand servos with similar performance numbers.
One of the reps at the Las Vegas show, for one of the Exceed/Redcat type companies, told a story about going to Asia to meet with suppliers for their electronics. The factory complexes there are HUGE, look up any story on Foxconn, and on the front side of a building there will be offices for different companies side-by-side, and the backdoors of each office open up to the same factory floor.
Granted there will be some differences between them and the high-end stuff, like most MP3 players and Apple iPods, but companies can sell products very cheaply if they don't have the overhead of the larger companies, or cut corners like slightly cheaper plastics, or just buy the technology they sell instead of developing their own.

Re: HobbyPartz ESC and Motors
I've been thinking about picking an EZRun system up, too. The price is right and I have read a lot of good reviews. My problem is how to order on their site. Maybe I am missing a simple step but whenever I pick my item, it doesn't show up in my cart. It shows something different (different motor kv) than what I want.
Any ideas?

Seems to be working OK for me. Try a different web browser. Check and see what the part number/combo number is, might just be a typo. I read the manuals for the EZRun combo and their radios this past week, and it is evident that English is not their first language lol

Looks like the EZRun system is the way to go. I read the manual and the tuning card options seem pretty good.

thanks for all the input gents. I'm just not sure what Turn motor to go with? 10T, 12T, 13T, 17T??? My little boy (13) wants to race at the local tracks. He pilots rather good, but still up in the air on what Turn motor to get. Thanks again gents.

When it doubt, ask the racers at the local tracks what they use. Same with tires, suspension settings, gearing, etc. 99% of guys will be happy to give you advice, and the 1% that won't usually don't know what they are doing anyway.

Re: HobbyPartz ESC and Motors
hobbywing ezruns are great systems.
their xerun line is even better, sensored, firmware updates.
i use xerun esc's in my race buggies/trucks. fantastic, easy to use systems.
i'd stick to hobbywing only though. there are knock offs out there that have really bad reviews.
i usually get mine on ebay.

Thanks again gents. I'm looking at the HobbyWing as we speak? What turn, what turn? Hmmm. So many to choose from.
