Top Cat Question
Top Cat Question
I just picked up a Top Cat and would like to know if the original kit came with a motor? If it did, which one??
I appreciate your help...
I will clean it up and post pics in the near future..

Re: Top Cat Question
I am crazy about the Topcat myself. Ive possibly built around 10 cars from new or slightly used parts and still have a good selection of bits in my original kit box.
Im yet to build 2 more new cars when I can spare the time.

Re: Top Cat Question
Yup. I have a bit of a Topcat fetish too. I have a couple of kits waiting to be built with some nice hop-ups. I think it is (i) the unique onboard suspension system plus (ii) its great looks that do it for me. It was also Schumacher's first serious attempt at producing a race-worthy dedicated 2WD buggy, I believe, which adds to its charm (for me)....
Hope you enjoy it!

Re: Top Cat Question
I saw one for sale on ebay right now. Very similar to mine. Looks like the motor that came with the one I just got is an old Yokomo "twisted" motor.

I assumed it was yours, with same location and similar user ID on the auction.

Re: Top Cat Question
I will be racing mine in June at the Australian Vintage Festival in Sydney.
Has had a quite a bit of work done it from me and Bormac as it was his.
Very happy with the results so far as the understeer traights or almost gone. Hoping to have it a little better in testing leading up to the event.

Re: Top Cat Question
What have been the major tuning tips or modifications to get it hooked up well? I raced one of these back when they were new, it was the first car I ever won a B main with. But I have no idea why, I was just a kid and threw it on the track. Looking to get back in one hopefully soon and wonder about set up tips.

Re: Top Cat Question
I have been racing and testing the Topcat for years. Getting the car to steer has been a real test.
Some of the things you can do are;
- Shorten the wheel base with different rear arms.
- Rear sway bar
- Reduce front caster via mod kit.
- Steering mod which increases steering throw.
Then there's tyre choices which will also affect handling characteristics.
