Rules for the wife and your rc collection!
Being with the same woman for more than 20 years, I've learned!
It's ok for her to spend a fortune; shoes, clothes, make up. How about that G'damn Longaberger basket collection she has to have. Do you know how much she spends on a frick'n hair cut or how much plants cost? It's bad enough you pay for her new car (while you drive the p.o.s.) that she seems to forget about until a week before the payment is due, but she wants you to keep gas in it and keep it running sound. She wants you to take her out, she wants you to pay the mortgage, pay for vacation...this life suckiing list is endless. Now, if you think all this is worth a little nooky, give it about ten years. What she does'nt know won't hurt her! Trust me, she feels the same way. There is plenty she won't tell you. I have twenty rc cars and she thinks I have only two.
Rule#1 Your 'mancave' - is just that, make it off limits to her-NO GIRLS ALLOWED even if you have to lock it. Do you go through her walk-in closet? If you can't lock the area, have all toolboxes, cabinets, and storage spaces locked and keep the keys on you at all times!
Rule#2 Never let her know exactly how many cars you have, but allow her to see you have multiple bodies and I only run no more than two cars at one time. This also means limiting the number of shelfers you have. She will know that if you only display them, they must have cost alot. If you have many of the same car or some cars you don't run anymore, strip some down and store them as parts.
Rule#3 Don't leave a paper trail - I know this is hard for you to do, but pay for everything you can in cash, destroy all receipts or lock them up too (risky). I like to remove parts from factory bags, that have the prices printed on them, and repackage in a parts bag. I stay away from the bay and I don't write checks or use credit cards. She has no idea what I spend on rc.
Rule#4 Lie!- Tell her you bought it used or traded something for it at the lhs.
Rule#5 DO NOT let her find out your password for RC10talk.com. If she does, your cover is blown!
I understand some of you guys may have 'done more time' than I or you may have some rules of your own so please feel free to add to the list of rules.

blokes are becoming way to soft, the new gen can barely fix a thing from what iv'e seen they just pay someone else without even trying and that applies to there better half, they just bow down to her and she call's all the shots. what's wrong with a good hobby, every guy need's one! better then drinking and smoking all ya money away
how else can we deal with all her complaining, man up and start wearing the pants again. they hide plenty alright

Re: Rules for the wife and your rc collection!
speaking from experience, never ever tell your wife how much things are worth. My ex was supportive of the hobby. She even pulled the name out of a hat for the RC10talk giveaway car. When she asked for a divorce, thing got nasty. She wanted half my extensive collection. Even though I used money made from my overtime or selling on ebay and message boards, she felt she was entitled to half it's value. In the end I ended up giving up my half interest of about $10K in my G35 she took so that I could keep my RC collection.

Re: Rules for the wife and your rc collection!
I'd like to offer a different perspective. I've been married to the same woman for twenty-seven years this month. Time flies while you're having fun! My wife not only accepts my hobbies (addictions), she actually encourages them! She's almost as excited as I am when I get new stuff, even if she doesn't know what it all is. She does try to learn which cars are which though. She even helped me plan the layout of my den so I could work on my cars and display them. Not that it's always been like that, we had to work to get to this point.
Now I only have one rule:
Be 100% transparent about what I'm buying and she doesn't even bat an eye. Well, almost never. A couple of the cars I bought have made her catch her breath when I told her how much they cost. But she never complained about it.
Another huge contributing factor is that we both have great jobs so the purchases aren't necessarily preventing her from indulging herself in a few things either. I count myself very luck indeed!

I use all the same "rules" that I do for my cigar collection.
1. It's none of your business
2. It's not drugs, so ease up
3. The bills are getting payed
4. At least I'm not at the bar every night like my dad was.......

my 5th rule to add is:
5: If you don't like it, the curb is right outside, feel free to sit out there while I collect your things to bring out to you.
