Stealth gearbox rebuild questions

Post by Rizzo »

G'day guys

I have recently rebuilt my stealth gearbox & I have a problem. No matter how much I tighten the torque control nut I can'r get drive to the wheels (it just spins) & it seems as though something in the actual gearbox is spinning.

I also adjusted the diff thrust spring as per the manual but think I have done something wrong as the diff is really tight & if I hold onto the left rear wheel & turn the right one anti clockwise, sometimes I can actually undo the diff thrust spring.

Can u guys think of any amatuer errors which I could have done, or what i could have overlooked in the rebuild?

regards
jak

Thanks, I checked that, it's definalty there.

The car will move under power, just there is something spinning like crazy in the box? it does get the car going though, albeit slowly

did you rebuild it with new diff parts (bolt, nut, spring, thrust bearings)?

ya that would be my next guess..
if you take 2 small allen wrenches and lock both outdrives, you should be able to easily move the diff gear at all.

i cant think of anything else.

Yes, I just put those in this morning as they just arrived from tower hobbies

seems like there's an issue with the thrust balls and washers if the diff loosens spinning the right outdrive counter clockwise.

I'm a stooge.

I just quickly pulled it apart again & I had both washers that are supposed to go either side of the diff & balls stuck together on 1 side.

I'll try it again & see if thats it

i'm not exactly sure what you mean by...... either side of the diff and balls. the 6 thrust balls get sandwiched between the 2 washers in the right outdrive.

it's late, and i'm tired. the way i'm taking what your saying is you're gonna put one of the washers in the left outdrive. if so, don't do that.

Sorry, may have said it wrong, I have the 6 balls in between the 2 washers on the right outdrive, I mean inside the gearbox, there are 2 large diff drive rings that are supposed to go either side of the main diff gear, I had both of these on 1 side.

In my haste I stuffed it up
, wel I hope thats it
