Outrage and raider wheels options

Post by vwjuice »

Hey guys, I know this has been asked a million times, but I can't seem to find the thread on here for converting outrages and ultimas to use 2.2 wheels. If someone has the link bookmarked and can post it here that would be awesome. I want to race my raider in vintage class and my daughter wants to race her outrage with me. My raider is one that Vintage AE built and after running it on the track I actually thought it was smoother than my old 6gear rc10. I'm not the best driver so yeah.

I need to run 2.2 wheels with some Aka Rebars so I need to know which axles, hubs, steering blocks, and I think that's it?

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Justin

team crp tamiya front axles (readily available on their shop on ebay), 4 11X5 bearings and a set of Tamiya's sand viper or desret gator wheels.

Good to see it being used :D dust from the track is better than the dust from the shelf. Glad you think it's smooth...it does have a NIP tranny and rebuild shocks  Too bad I tested it out on a dusty road before it made it to you. I would like to see some pics of your modern wheel setup

A few guys at the track couldn't believe how smooth it was and how well it handled. The tires were literally the only limiting factor on it. Well that and the stock plastic dogbones. I swapped those out with some metal ones from an ultima so there's no issues other than tires.

I found the threa mikedealer has using rb5 parts. That'll work for the outrage and I think for the raider also. If not I'll look into the crp stuff.

you'll be much cheaper off with the crp axles.
The rear already has 12mm hexes on the raider , right?

Yeah I'm pretty sure both cars have a 12mm rear hex. I plan on ugradinv to cvd's in both cars as they seem to have similar length axles and the outrage can use rb5 cvd's. I never thought of using the crp axles before it was mentioned. I thought they would just make older wheels fit. The problem I did run inti with the outrage was that most rear wheels didn't fit. The hex was too thick. I bet I can find some that'll fit easily. My main thought of running kyosho stuff is that it's always in stock at the track and no tamiya stuff is.

Or you can buy 4X11 bearings from the start and skip the CRP axels… 8)

I could then use the tamiya wheels?

I made some serious changes to my Ultima using RB5 parts front and rear to get Kyosho 2.2 wheels fitted.

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=15755&hilit=ultima

The easiest fix is to use the CRP front axles and Kyosho 2.2s for the rear.

Have you tried using rb5 front arms? I'd like to get the wider stance in the front end. Might help make the outrage a little more stable in the bumps. I like what you did with that ultima though. It looks clean and factory. I was just thinking about using bandit wheels since their only $3.89 at tower. What clearance problems were you having with them? I wad thinking if I changed to rb5 front end parts I could then use bandit wheels?

Good find!

Yet, team crp also has the 'wide' axles: which add 5mm on each side.

RB5 front arms won't fit the ultima bulkhead: too narrow at the inner hinge. Andy's front arms for the ultima add 5mmm on each side, ultima pro-xl front arms too.
That's a little better soltuion to add width than the wide axles from team crp, but also harder to find and probably more expensive

Yeah I could see those being difficult to find. I might try the crp axles to see how it handles.

Massive bump on my behalf, do you know the part number for the Ultima dogbones and were they a straight fit?
I'm in the process of rebuilding my old Raider thanks to inspiration from the model you own and I'm really struggling with this as the only ones I know of are the 5062's which are like hens teeth to get hold of!
