You Know It's Time To Upgrade When...

Post by LTO_Dave »

...you realize your old S&K Battery Claw and Trinity Lennon Lugs battery bars don't work with newer cells.

I needed a new battery for my crawler, so opened a fresh pack of Orion 5300 SHO cells and built my first 6-cell pack since about 1998.

I never realized how much larger the new Ni-mh cells are compared to the old 1400 SCRs I'm used to. Even modern battery bars are longer.

I managed to get the thing assembled with some rubber bands and burnt finger tips. I think it's finally time for some LiPo's. :D

I'm glad this isn't the start of your recipe thread. (which I like if I ever went by a recipe   ).

I can't believe that anyone who actually runs any type of r/c hasn't switched to lipo. It is a beautiful thing. :D Same with brushless, but if I had to choose one technological advancement in r/c over the other, lipo would be it. Especially with all the cheap/good options these days. Go for it! 8)

And for what it's worth, I'm not sure I've ever built a battery in my career that held together. I was Avenger all the way!

Now you tell me.

I ShooGoo'd them after soldering and will keep the rubber bands in place until tomorrow.

I actually did buy a new TrakPower saddle LiPo on ebay a few months ago for my B44, which is still sealed in the box, but I still need to get a charger and cut-off, maybe even a brushless setup.
