onyx 14 turn motor with Novak T-4 Drawing to much power?

Post by durb69 »

i am having an issue with this setup. It is causing some radio interference and i am thinking it is mostly because if the high amperage draw of this motor? if i ease into the throttle and gently go up to full speed it works pretty flawless. If i get into the the throttle very quickly it cuts out the controls all together. Can someone help me out with this. I was using a vintage airtronics controller and that really went nuts. I upgraded to a modern 2.4 GHZ controller and it is now doing this. I am guessing if i ad a capacitor to the ESC that i can fix this problem (based on my research any way). But can someone explain to me what size cap to use and if this will solve my problem? The T-4 manual states that it has not motor turn limit so it should not be related to the ESC other than the AMP draw from the motor.

Thanks for your help!

My first thought would be battery. if you ease into it and theres no problem, but gas it and it cuts out I would say your battery cant supply the amps the rest of the system wants.

Could it also be the CF chassis causing the interference?

Spectrum sells a capacitor they call it a stutter stopper $5. If you feel this will help. I run them on everything.

yes a stutter stopper/surge cap can definitely help. What happens is the voltage drops momentarily as you effectively 'short' the battery. If the cells can't supply enough current, or the wires have too much resistance, the voltage drops so far that the regulator no longer regulates and the receiver effectively loses power and you lose radio control. Having the capacitor on the receiver acts as a backup 'battery' to supply current for that split second.

You want to install the cap in the 'batt' connection of the reciever, so it supplies power to the receiver.

i just made a stutter stopper/glitch buster with a 1000uF 35V capacitor and an old servo lead. I hope the Capacitor is large enough though.

Here is one from Team Associated.

I use a Spektrum BEC in my truck. I just "jazzed" it up a little.
