No help from Novak

Post by PTModIT »

Hi, I emailed Novak about a possible overheating problem with my XRS esc.All I asked was what is the max temp for this unit.No answer about it. The car quits after 2 or 3 runs on the street. Then the power comes back after about 10 sec. Then I'll run some more and it quits again.I was trying different gearing and and it was a little humid. I checked the temp with a temp gauge and it read 113 degree F and up. Emailed again no answer to my question, just it could be the plugs or bad battery. Now I did get the two email replies very quickly. That was great.I just want to know if the temp went to high and damaged the esc. Thanks.

Can't offer any help here but back in the day Novak was THE ESC. Seems like Tekin has taken over the market as far as a US reputable recognizable name in the RC industry.

Of course most electronics are made in the BIG C now.

I'm 55 and have always been told that China would take over the US without ever firing a shot.

The days are here my friend.

I've heard that about Tekin. I'm not that big into electrics any more. Older 1/4 scale gas now.

If you killed it, it wouldn't work at all at thias point. There must be an issue with overgearing or possibly too tight of gear mesh? If you're running a 15t or faster that would do it too - interested to hear what's causing it.

The max motor for this esc is a 15T motor, The mesh is fine.I thought I damaged it with the overgearing and heat. But when I lowered the gearing it still quit.I ran it with the body off and the highest temp I got was 88 degree F.Compared to 113 F +.I would still like to know the Max temp for this esc.I'm not sure in the manual if this esc has a temp shut off sensor. That's what it seems to do .I reaches the max temp ,Shuts off until the temp lowers then I get the power back.Maybe these older esc can't handle todays motors.I might have to change to maybe a 19t motor. I'll keep testing.

The issue is that these are low end esc's and while it says 15turn, it doesn't put out enough amperage to adequatly power the motor. They will alawys be slow with no punch. I have a few of these esc's. They work great in my wild willy 2 that has a trinity stock motor. It didn't work very well at all in my midnight pumpkin with a 15 turn

if your thinking its getting to hot try and mount a fan on top of the speed control and see if that helps.
