Just picked up a Kyosho Raider
Local guy had this Raider so we traded some stuff, I got this and he got an RC10 chassis that I had. It's 99.9% complete, only thing missing is original antenna tube and I guess straps that hold the battery down.
It runs good, but needs to be cleaned up, that will start soon. It came with everything you see here:
Can anyone tell me more about this? Not sure what year it is.

Re: Just picked up a Kyosho Raider
Nice score. Raiders are good little runners. I believe they came out in 1987 or 88, as a replacement for the Pegasus series cars. The Raider shares a lot of parts with the Kyosho Rocky, especially in the rear. Later there was a Turbo version, and I believe a Pro as well, but with the friction shocks and the block front tires this looks like the standard original one. I had one that I got from a neighbor in trade for a Marui Big Bear back in the 80s. If I remember right, the battery straps were just big reuseable zip-ties, like the Optima used.

That Lemans Stock 05, was what came in the box for a raider. The mechanical speed control, and the "screw on to the servo horn" servo saver, and steering links as well. I'd say your Raider is as original as they come. Nice car...
(My first hobby grade R/C was a Raider.)

I like the paint job. It looks like something from the 90's. It also looks like it should clean up nicely. To hold the battery down I would simply use some Velcro straps since that way it will make for easy removal of it.

Re: Just picked up a Kyosho Raider
I used to dress like that in the 80's
I cleaned the dust off the body, came out nice. I ran it last night but the AM system is very sensitive. She took off on me and I had to give chase. Forward to reverse is VERY touchy, and when you turn, it's glitchy in the throttle. I was surprised that the old battery took a charge and actually held it.
It came with the original manual with build sheets, and in there it says 1988. I thought it was earlier. Here's a quick vid of me running it on the bench:
