moving to the next gen losi....XXT

Post by JK Racing »

So I found a XXT on RCTECH for pretty cheap, so I dove in and bought it. In really good condition overall, tore it apart, cleaned it up and tossed a 10.5 and lipo in there :)

Positives: Trinity Shock Mounts, Lunsford Titanium, Lightweight/machined Losi Motor Mount, Hydradrive, no broken parts.
Only bad: non-CR, body is pretty tore up.

Looks a good clean truck, like you say, shame about the body. Trinity mounts are a nice touch.

As you say your XXT looks to be in great condition - especially now you've done such a great job on the clean/re-build.... slightly concerned that you may have needed those 'mole' grips LOL! :D

That Checkpoint LiPo looks like it fits nicely in the truck - does it tuck cleanly into the back of the chassis? My only LiPo that is thin enough to fit, is an old Trakpower, but i'll soon be looking to find a suitable replacement.

I hold the turnbuckles with those while I pull the ball cups off/put back on...just a habit I have done over the years.

The old checkpoint lipos (like that one) were hobbico/trakpowers :), and yes, it tucks under/inside the rear of the chassis just fine. I run 1 foam in the rear & 2 foams up front (until I hit the track, then the balance will be tested).

Future (read far future) plans are upgrading everything to XXTCR spec, XL chassis, and full CR rear suspension, and moving the front to the kingpin ballstud option. That is how I used to run my truck BITD, so this will change over time to replicate that truck.

I also found my old stash of XXT wheels over the weekend. Now to get a container big enough to acetone off all the old worn out tires, I will have quite a few nice used sets of Losi natural wheels, just hope I can find all the lexan disks now.

What's your trick for removing the tires, do you mean a like vat of acetone and dunking the wheels and tires? Can you buy it in those quantities?

I usually use a large coffee can, rocks or something similar in the bottom so they arent directly in the acetone, then seal it up for a couple days. Tires pull right off, no issues (usually). Stubborn ones get an extra day. I usually rotate the tires after day one, and test if I can pull them off already. I do it to save the wheels mainly, very rarely do it do this method to save tires. Foams are toast, you wont save them.

You can also buy an empty 1 gallon paint can w/lid at places like Lowes or Home Depot. While your there pick up a gallon of Acetone. I only poor in about 1/3 of a gallon and also support the tire/wheel combo with a rock or whatever. I then use the remaining Acetone in another gallon container to give the wheels a final rinse before mounting new tires.

When the acetone gets dirty. Strain it through a coffee filter and start over.

Works like a charm!!
