acetone or wd40 will work for the servo tape.

NEVER be without WD40...cleans bearings, cleans tape, polishes bodies, and makes it smell all "racy".

WD40 is king...Acetone ate my tupperware bowl and turned the bottom to gel...I have already cleaned with Dawn and hot water and the parts show promise...Now i have them all soaking in WD40 for the day...Then to pull completely apart , inspect and put away for future use...I found another rtr [ minus box and papers ] but was told that it runs well...It will come pretty clean already so when i get her i will post pics...These parts i will use for spare parts...RC10s are like crack...Once you start you can't stop  Me and the automotive area in Walmart have become best friends  I already have a shopping list for cleaning stuff...If i use acetone again i will buy a glass container to try next time...Thanks for all the replies...

Parts are looking good sos far...Ran out of simple green and gotta run to the store for more...This gives you and idea of how well the cleaning has come so far...Does anyone know if the gray stuff on the chassis is battery acid ????

it was probably battery acid, but it could have been a number of things that will eat the anodizing. Unfortunately, nothing can be done other than a strip and re-anno or other finish. But if you are running it anyway, it's no big deal.

you used only simple green as the soak for the white parts? not bad! would that work on died parts to bring back white too? (not trying to hijack)
