Prototype parts for old TAG offroad car

Post by V12 »

Going through one of my old offroad boxes I found some parts again I got when driving a preproduction TAG car, I think this was the TAG Pro10. Thought some guys might be interested in seeing such parts.
The production car later should use a frontdiff and dogbones, but for the team a very small batch of oneway units and universals were made.
The TAG car, at least the preproduction version, was designed using wheels of the Tamiya Hotshot or PB Mini Mustang so a triangle wheel adapter (plastic) had to be used again as those cars. For the prototype oneway this wheel adapter was machined from aluminium as a hub housing the oneway bearing, as used also by other cars as the Yokomo 834B. For mounting the wheels the golden aluminium hex screws were used. The pictures are showing the completed steering block with oneway hub and universals, also disassembled.

The TAG car was using not belt but a shaft drive 4WD system with plastic gears. This was not really that strong so also some special metal gears were made, just for the large gear. I also have this.

Tag was the parent company or aka of The SG Coyote wasn't it? Or were they a reseller? I know I've seen the tag logo on coyotes.

I don´t know the Coyote, just the TAG Pro10. This was designed and sold by TAG but made by SG.
Actually it´s a curious name as Pro10 sounds being a pancar but it´s an offroad.

Maybe it´s similar as with PB where some cars being produced by PB for other brands in the UK were sold as PB for overseas countries. So it´s maybe possible the TAG car was sold international as SG.
But I could ask someone who was importing the TAG in the past.

Looks a bit like TTech Predator but years before it. Is this Umberto's car, but from what race? It is not from 1987 Euros.
