Turnbuckles

Post by DMAT »

Just correct me if im wrong but If I buy a set of turnbuckles and ends. One end needs to be normal threads and the other reversed threads to go on the turnbuckle.

I got a set of normal and reverse thread ends but it appears all the reverse threads dont match up with anything. Is there something I'm missing? Just want to know before I contact the place I got them from.

Just a bit on info, All the normal threaded ones went right onto the turnbuckles. Just incase I was wrong about the ends, I tested the normal ones on the other ends and they would not thread either.

If the rod ends are plastic, they will thread on either end. Just apply light pressure and be sure to turn clockwise on the standard threads and counderclockwise on the reverse threads.

they were all aluminum but I did do what yall were saying. I even looked at the threads to verify which direction it needed to turn to thread on.

I did notice some of them had a slight taper leading to the threads and some dont. I'm thinking some of them were made wrong and thats what im looking at. Either that or I dont know. It just doesnt make sense for 8 of them to be wrong unless they are from the same batch.

I'm gonna mess with them again later tonight and I get nowhere, im gonna try to send them back to get a new set.

the rod ends are aluminum? If that is the case you need to have half left threads, and half right threads.

can you provide a link or manufacturer of where you got them? Most rod ends are plastic and so you form the threads when you assemble the link. remember the left-hand thread screws in backwards, you have to 'loosen' the rod end to get it to thread.

reverse threads

regular threads

I have a turnbuckle set with m3 thread pattern. Both have the same specs except for thread pattern being reversed on one. Clearly it works as one set of them went on but the other is going nowhere.

I purchased some 4-40 rod ends from them already and they worked fine. I dont know what to say about these though.

sounds like they sent you the wrong ones for the lefties. try them all on the right hand thread, and if they all fit, they definitely gave you the wrong ones for half of what you need.

thought id give an update, Talked to the company, they are sending me replacements.

I did try to use the reversed ones on the other end but it didnt work at all. The more I look at it, the more it seems like the inside taper wasnt added on the reverse ones so they wouldnt go on anything. I'm taking a small screw driver and trying to scrap out some of the material to see if the turnbuckles will go in but it hasnt worked so far.

Edit: grinded more out and it did manage to go only 2 threads in before locking up. seems like it was too small for a m3 thread altogether.
