Brushed motor issues

Over the last week, I've started having some issues with my Trinity Chameleon 2 19T motor. The car runs fine for a few minutes and then starts to get slower and slower and then stops. If I pick the car up and fiddle with a brush spring, it will sometimes come back to life and run at full speed. Usually this will last for a couple of passes in front of the house and then it gets slower again.

I've pulled the brushes out and cleaned the comm, sprayed the comm down and it still hasn't helped. Today, I installed new brushes and still it doesn't help. I pulled the motor out and put a Tamiya Sport Tuned in and it runs fine.

The 19T isn't very old, was purchased new and probably has a dozen runs on it. I can't figure out what's going on but it's bumming me out because I really like this motor.

Thoughts???

Sounds if your comm needs a skim. Also new brushes won`t help if this is the case. Do you have a pic from the armature?

also sounds like your springs have over heated and are now too soft to put pressure on the brushes .. unless the brushes are too worn and the springs are hitting the brush hoods ... if you change to a heaver set of springs it will probly fix it .. i had the same problem last week and i thought i had a dead battery

Not sure if anyone still uses comm drops but if you are stop, it will gum up the brush hoods and the brushes won't be able to move freely. Have the brush hoods been bent at all? The brushes might be binding, and a quick skim off the comm. couldn't hurt either. If you don't have a comm lathe, I picked one up on eBay new from integy for $25 they're probably just trying to get rid of old stock, it's eagle brand and it will still need a motor to turn the armature on the lathe.

Sounds like misaligned brush hood's maybe.. Are the brushes screw on? I clean up a small section near the brush screw and solder new brushes on when I have a hit and miss with brushed motors..

I'm gonna agree with the brush springs being lunched and the comm needing a skim. Are you running it in a sandy area? If so, the bushings might be in rough shape. You can just replace those with regular motor bearings, which I would recommend anyways if you're not racing. While you have the motor out of the car, double check that the endbell screws are tight and that the brush hood screws and spring posts are snug.

Associated has new springs for .99 a pair so I ordered 10 pair :lol: You guys are probably right that I overheated them as I have had a hard time finding the right gearing for it. I've got a fresh set of brushes waiting, the com has been gone over with a com stick and a liberal amount of motor spray. I hope this works. In the mean time, I bought a new Tamiya GT Tuned 25T motor and am pretty disappointed by it. I really want to have a good running, brushed car but so far have had more frustration than fun with it.

Most likely a sticking brush. Sounds like it will also need a comm cut as a hung brush usually arcs quite badly and ruins the comm.

New bushes and a cut should restore performance.

So, my order came and (of course) Reedy brushes don't work on Trinity motors. Now I have 10 pair of brushes that only work on one motor. Now off to find some Trinity brushes.

Edit: Found 3 pair at A-Main, shipped for less than $7.

Are they the larger P35 brushes that is the size of both stand up and lay down?

There ya go...I meant to say that the Reedy springs didn't work with my Trinity motor.

Got my Trinity springs today and they are wrong too :twisted: . Can anyone please tell me what kind of springs I need for a Trinity P2K and Trinity Chameleon? The springs need to be opposite of each other and the ones I've already purchased are exact pairs.

yeah they are mirror pair, I think 1's green and the other 1's red... dunno today, BiTD used to buy original Trinity.
