I'm opposed to that for the same reason as not hanging the servo on the pod to save the troubles of cables-it's a lot of unsuspended weight.
I have considered a couple of small ~1oz tanks tho, I could run them them saddle pack style and relocate the servo from where it is now. It's easy enough to "Y" the tanks together. Two ounces is roughly 60cc, not far from a 75cc tank that a much larger .12 uses

i'd flip the steering servo to the front and put the throttle servo in it's place. then use saddle tanks.

Good call, it would free up a lot of space

I think I would try to leave the steering servo and try to stack the throttle servo on top of the steering servo. Might need some new custom servo mounts for the throttle servo. That's the config that popped into my head when I looked at the car.

You would have trouble fitting a body this way.

I relocated the steering at first but the throttle servo still wasn't happy, I lost the servo mounts, and the geometry all were effected. I went back to the stock setup and added the throttle servo behind it and lost the stock antenna mount. Used gt servo mounts and a gt receiver mount, plenty of room for saddle tanks now! And....I picked an old can am body that was mismade- good one to practice on. The servo just barely clears. On a GTP body it wouldn't be an issue at all. The height vs a cox nissan is still pretty close and they ran micro servos.

Looks wonderful! Fall back option, what about mounting the throttle servo behind the pod?
(late I know... but I am a slacker lately..)

Cool looking car Jeff! 8) the new location for the throttle/break servo a perfect location and freed up space for the dual tanks.

Tweak is the single most important thing on a pan car
By adding the fuel tank to one side, tweak will never be correct
I can't center the tank with a T plate
I really need to go to a link style/lipo style setup, and I can, but now we are in two generation newer tech.
Nah, link cars exist since much longer. Trinity's Evolution 10 predates the RC10L3 and had links.

For the steering servo, you could go for a Tamiya F103-style set-up, with the servo vertical with an ear cut off. Also a period solution. Or drop a micro servo between the front arms.
