Tenth Technology DTM

Post by nicholasdivitto »

I saw it from across the shop. When I saw its cantilever suspension and shiny blue parts, I nearly passed out. I'm in love, yes I'm a believer!
My girlfriend sighed as I floated towards the counter in a river of my own drool as I chanted:
"TENTH TECH TENTH TECH TENTH TECH TENTH TECH TENTH TECH"
I didn't buy it. They only took cash on used models.
I went back the next day, cash in hand, but it was gone.
Turns out, my beautiful girlfriend bought it for an early birthday present to me.

So I've had it for a few months now. I checked out my nearest carpet racing track and I think I've caught the on road bug...

Thus begins the official start of my Tenth Technology DTM resto Mod. I plan on racing this in the USGT class. I won't be the fastest, but I think I'll have the coolest chassis.

Enough talk. Here are some pictures of the teardown.

The biggest issue so far has been bearings. This car doesn't look like it was assembled correctly.
Image
There are no flanged bearings anywhere. All of the tenth tech pred manuals I've looked at show lots of flanged bearings, and they make sense in the hub carriers, so I'm gonna buy some and put them in.
Here is what I have in mind:

Shock absorbers:

And there's the shock oil...

Why are these open top ball cups used everywhere? I just threw an rpm ball cup on to see how it looked.
Image
Arms off. I love how the hing pins slide right out. No E-clips anywhere.
Image
The steering arm things were broken from the store. I designed some and 3d printed them, and they work well, but I already ordered some proper replacements.

Just noticed the layered carbon and (what I assume to be) G10 shock towers)

All of my screws and bearings are accounted for. I'm gonna order some blue anodized aluminum screws for some bling, and some proper flanged bearings so the car actually works.
Anybody know anything about these TT DTM cars?

Most of my bearings have arrived. I ordered all these through an ebay member called "RCBearings." I believe they also have their own website. They didn't have the size I needed for the rear hub carriers, so I'm still waiting for those to cross the pacific ocean.

That loose ball kinda scared me, though I'm sure it doesn't belong inside one of these. At least I hope...

Now the rockers are silky smooth. The hub carriers have a little more slop than I like, but I think it can be remedied with some nylon spacers behind the hexes.
I can't wait for my screws to show up.

I found this neat little snippet from tamiyaclub:

Looking to dredge up an oldie here - maybe someone can answer/help :)

#1 - did you ever run it in VTA? How did you gear it
#2 - what is the FDR on these cars, so if you never did run it in VTA, I can attempt to find gearing?
#3 - anyone, anywhere have a link to a manual?
