Re: 6 gear trans article (June 89’ RCCA)
It's a good reminder that Team Losi used to be just an aftermarket parts supplier. Still feel weird to see a giant Team Losi decal on an RC10 though.
It's interesting to read, a lot more effort was needed back then to properly rebuild a tranny, most stuff now you just need to assemble it, no filing and hand fitting gears.

Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.

One of the things I appreciated most from this article was the clear explanation of what and why the aftermarket parts were created for. For instance the long Trackmaster diff shaft, one of mine has it and I yes of course the longer threaded end makes simple clear sense but the need for the screw on the opposite side kind of perplexed me until now

That's the one thing that irritates me about some other how-tos. Knowing the "why" is more important than the "how" In my opinion. It gives the reader a way better understanding of the mechanics involved.MarkyDents wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 2:15 pm One of the things I appreciated most from this article was the clear explanation of what and why the aftermarket parts were created for. I have one as well. I always figured that the screw was for simplifying assembly and disassembly for maintenance. Having to constantly deal with a captured E clip would get old. Simply loosening the diff and removing the screw allows quick disassembly of the transmission.MarkyDents wrote: ↑Sun Dec 11, 2022 2:15 pm For instance the long Trackmaster diff shaft, one of mine has it and I yes of course the longer threaded end makes simple clear sense but the need for the screw on the opposite side kind of perplexed me until now
If the screw wasn't tight, it would likely back out. Of course, 3/16" OD shims could be used.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.
