I actually anodized a chassis

Post by rc-stu »

It's ugly. Very ugly. But i think I'm onto something. this is the first time I've got it to work. The color is pretty close to the original gold but completely flat. I think i need to do a better job of preparing the metal after I strip the original anodizing to get it even and not all splotchy etc...

I have no idea why my acid in the tank turned yellow. There's no dye in there.

how long are you anodizing for, it should be between 60-65 minutes typically
you gotta make sure it stays below 65 degrees also, 70 degrees will cause pitting

yeah i think it may be because i secured the aluminum hanging wire to the chassis with stainless steel screws and they have a couple rust spots on 'em. instant rust, pretty crazy. i think that may have colored it.
if you look at the positive lead you'll see it is rusted and cut in half. on a different tank it was partially in the acid and it ate right through it haha.

yea steel will get destroyed VERY quickly in that tub, aluminum or titanium wire is best best for mounting also

Hey rc,
just a curious question but about how much money do you think you have in the chemical part of this process? I wasn't finding anyplace cheap enuf to get this stuff from and kinda lost interest but you got it going again...

I think this chassis needs to be in the The official "lightweight" chassis thread. LOL

Hi my name is Mike and I'm a Chromaholic, my wheels have been chrome free for over a year, thanks to everyone that made fun of them.

The older I get , the faster I was.

the whole Associated anodizing process is pretty well explained and detailed in one of Gene's Husting DVD's, this one and I recently read what RC stands for in the name of most of AE cars pretty much from the beginnning, anyone wanna take a guess? Pretty easy ain't it?

No question, might be the all time greatest lightweight chassis in the lightweight chassis topic. Could we put this one on the scales and see how much weight is saved?
Also, probably the most symmetrical design and nobody is going to give you any cheese grader stuff about this one. You know the dirt is coming back out no problem.
Hallalujeh brother, I'm feelin the love, where is my hacksaw?

That chassis would look awesome with a nicely machined graphite plate filling the hole (-0-)
