How to make white parts white?

Post by Gary »

I'm sure this has been discussed before. What's the best way to get your old white plastic parts looking new again or at least better? I was thinking about a 90% water 10% bleach soak. Is this a bad idea? Also will putting the parts in semi boiling water for 30 minutes or so make them stronger (to impact or stress) or is this not suggested. Thanks for any info.

just clean them the best you can with simple green, or something like that. you won't get them any whiter than they already are.

Thanks, actually I didn't mean get them white or whiter, just clean the brown stains and such. I'll try the simple green. I don't want to dye.

I've used Soft Scrub to good effect. It's made for cleaning stains out of tubs and sinks. It has bleach in it so use it safely.

I have tryied everthing .I have tryied many times to make the parts white nothing seems to work. I just say if you want white parts you are going to have to find new parts. I have found that most household cleaners will take dirt , grease and grime off but i havn't found anything to bring them back to mint unused condition. If you are not picky just dye them black. Just face it the white parts are twenty years old and have that aged look . The old parts are like me they have aged gracfully.

Look at the prices they want for "white parts" on other sites. If you have new white parts just hold on to them they are going to be like gold in a few years. I think associated could at least reproduce the white parts for a limited time. If anyone is up for that idea say IIIIIIIIIIIIII.

I actually just gott through cleaning some White Parts. I used "Oxy Cleaning Dish Soap, and some Colgate Whitening ToothPaste. Most of them came out great, and they were very nasty!!! No way of knowing if there was any "yellowing" under the gease and grime, but there sure isnt much there now.

I saw another post on this topic and someone used bleach and detergent and it really didn't help. I may try some of that oxyclean soap on a battery tray I've got. I tried to find Soft Scrub at the market but they didn't have it.

Just remember that the battery tray material is different than the suspension parts. Make sure that you experiment with parts you can live without, I have ruined a few by overdoing it..............you can end up with some chalky white parts.

I just used this method with good results. It didnt make them like new white but did whiten them up they turned out very nice.

Scrubed with Alajxs Bleach Powder and toothbrush ( hope the wife dosent get mad about her toothbrush )

Mixed 70% Bleach and 30% water let them soak after scrubing for 2 hours

clean water rinse and let them dry.

I've tried bleaching the parts. It worked good on some and didn't on most. I ended up dyeing the parts black.
