No way of knowing if there was any "yellowing" under the gease and grime, but there sure isnt much there now.

I tred oxy clean too but nothing took the grease off better than 409.

I have used Polident, smoker's version, it didn't really notice that much of a difference as compared to using something like Simple Green, hot water, and a good scrub.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

I tried a cone shaped brush on my dremel with some polishing compound on a white battery mount and it cleaned up real nice. I cleaned the grime off it first with soap and water and then used the compound. If a stain goes right through a part there aint a durned thing you can do about it.

One thing I never tried so far that could actually give some results is exposing the parts to UV light, I'm pretty sure it could work. Did anyone ever try?

That may be something I will try... Anything is worth a shot. My brother-in-laws car sat in a smokers house for 15+ years. It yellowed the parts pretty bad. I have tried simple green so far and it helped some.

I'm all for the time machine, but if you cant get that to work, go for the 50/50 bleach/water and I like the 409 idea too!

Plastic polishing works, just make sure you go easy on the part and let the polishing compound do it's work.

If anything, exposure to UV light will make the parts more yellow. I think that's why they turn yellow in the first place. :D

my thoughts exactly, im sure the yellowing only goes in a small distance has anyone cut an arm or such in half to check? there must be some great product that will effect the outer layer at least

Sorry, I'm a NEWB here... But I have tried all the things here and Dawn Dish soap, hot water and a toothbrush works just as good as any of them.

Rit Dye makes a whitener to make clothes "White" again... has anyone tried this?

Maybe Chlorine?? Murattic Acid?

Maybe a newby don't know.

why would this cause members to leave ?

we are always looking for new ideas in the the quest for a method that would make this happen.

I agree on using the search and post to a thread that is already started.
