Cox Bandido.

Post by Bormac »

After chatting with Chris (aka- BESTY) I remembered an advertisement clipping I glued into my old scrap book when I was a kid way back when. Anyway here it is, the COX 'Bandido'. Back when i was young and impressionable I used to collect advertisments from the mail on anything r/c and into the book they were stuck-LOL! I remember seeing this advert and i was in the middle of saving my pocket money for an Optima which i put on lay bye. I was tempted to go out and buy this car because at that point i had enough money saved. Kinda glad i waited and got the Optima in the end though.
From what i hear this was Chris's first buggy and he's been searching parts to build 2 cars, a new built shelfer and a vintage racer to run with. Im looking forward to seeing him down on the central Coast soon and i can finaly have a look over this car in person for the first time.
Anyway i still have the advertisment clipping and here it is.

Those thiings are bizarre with how they use plastic flex for the suspension arms to hinge off the chassis.

I have three of those in fair shape. Don't ask me why. Not what I'd call a high end car but definitely different! Have a box too. :/

same car as the kyosho icarus. I was amazed to see how the frontwheel axle sits in front of the steering pivot.

A young kid at my track in 86 had one he raced for a whole yr . Never did a thing to it in the whole time eithier.

He even used silcone to form lugs on the rear tires. Was not really fast as he was lapped by the faster guys several times but the icarius did its job well withnot one DNF.

To me its a ugly duckling but thats not the point. It was a budget 2 WD and did a good job as it doesnt bounce every where with a independent rear end and oil shocks.

I've always wondered who copied who: these are so similar to a tamiya falcon.

Man, would I love to get a Bandido like the one in the ad, just awesome.
I am currently building a new parts Pegasus and an almost correct Cosmo. also rebuilding a Pegasus runner.
Also waiting for an Icarus to arrive any day now.
I just love these cars and can't really describe why.

ah these cars i love em, dont know why either! definatly not a top end car, but a nice one to start off with or a shelfer.

i just got 2 from Gary (redscampi) , with those 2, i plan to make one nice one, and the other little less nicer.

i was kinda dissapointed when i saw the dog bone set up. it looks like they could strip out real easy , also the part on the trans that the dog bone slides in to , looks as if it could strip out easy too. id be too afraid to put in a race motor, so im just going to build them up and shelf them.

real nice cars actually, i like how they look, also its vintage , very cool little cars!

i might post a build thread for them, still in the process of making room and organizing stuff.

Hi.
I know what you mean with those dog bones. They are pretty cheap though.
I just made sure I have spares. I wish I took photos during my build.
Maybe I will the cosmo clone . My new built Pegasus is going to be a shelfer
the rebuild will be the runner. :-)
