My favorites of the day were the Reedy Ultras, Sonics, Sonic II's and Tri-Sonics

The Trinity Slot Machine holds a special place as well as it was my first motor.

If I had endless amounts of cash I wouldn't mind collecting the original series of Trinity Speed Gems.
I was old school - when old school wasn't cool !

These were my go-to motors as I dreamed of my Egress being competitive in the 4WD classes.
But the tracks never stuck around so they ended up being preserved as unused shelf display motors instead :)

My offer was accepted so I'll post one of my favorites soon. Unfortunately I answered the age old question of "How much is it worth?" with "However much someone is willing to pay." No regrets!

My second favorite all-time behind Wimpy. Been looking for one for a while. Now I need an AGI Jammer 6 gear to put it in.

Love this thread, I came into the hobby around 1990, with my first serious car being the 91 Yokomo and an RC10T. I was in love with Cam motors (black and pink) and the Speedworks Triad series; both I will re-add to my collection at some point.

Thev Le Mans motors were always my favourites, and the pick of the bunch for me was the 480T. When I started playing with RC cars there were other faster handwound motors around with price tags that put them out of reach of a thirteen year old. The Le Mans motors however were more affordable. My brother bought a 360PT for $50AUD in '86 which would lift the front wheels of his Fox off the ground. Unfortunately, it being a 550 made it "illegal" for modified class racing. Still a lot of fun though.

On that note, thinking back to the Bundall off road track on the Gold Coast, we only had two classes. 4WD and 2WD stock. One race day the organiser told us that on the next race day in two weeks 4WD stock would become modified class and race for four minutes instead of six. Well, two weeks later a bloke from Brisbane turned up with a Tamiya Fox fitted with a 240S and blitzed the class. That thing was a rocket (at the time).

I now own two 480T motors, one new and original, the other a "special" with an alloy endbell painted metallic green and a Parma handwound armature which is going to power my SG Coyote.
Chris.

I am very lucky that i still have all but a few of my original motors. I started out in around 1986 and back then in the UK anything with a Demon label was quick. My first non silver can motor was a Demon 27T standard, which was well used and i still have it, complete with motor cleaner-faded label. As a result of this nostalgia i now have a reasonable Demon motor collection.

I then switched to MG, who eventually were to become my sponsor, so now i think my dream motor - standard at least - would be a new in packet 88 MG Brown Dot. I have been hunting for one for a long time.

The Revolution Insane was considered exactly that during my early racing days, and i never bought one back then, so that is something I actively sought out fairly recently.

For modified running at club level I used Reedy motors- mainly a Red Dot, Silver Dot or Yellow Dot, all of which gave consistent speed. For proper competition though i would receive motors from MG which were built for that meeting.

I had a JDM 05R standard motor at one time, and i vividly remember it, but it has somehow been lost over time, so that is another i am actively hunting for. I have never even seen a photo of one let alone seen one come up for sale. I also quite like the unusual stuff - say motors with slot brush conversions - so they are definitely on my hit list and i do have a few of those now.

This leads me onto my go to motor , the one I kept buying and that was the Demon 27HT , a standard class motor that just really worked in my Hot Shot , the down side was the motor bushings , they just wore out really fast , one or two meetings ,maybe more if you were hot on the lube , I probably wasn't that good at maintenance back then :( , I'd love to find a mint Demon 27HT but I just never see them up for sale and I guess they just got thrown out when used up .
So what were your dream motors and go to motors way back in them day ? , not what are they now but back then when it was real and new !
Was it the early silver can Demon HT's you ran or the red base plate versions? My one is a really early silver can one, before Nick had the tooling made for his own Demon logo endbells.

It or they were the silver can with black plastic end for the brushes , don't think they had his logo other than the decal , its odd really that they are hard to find , they were a cheap £10 standard class motor , there must have been quite a few knocking about but I guess they were used and thrown away :(

Mine is a pre-Sagami one which Nick stamped with his own DEMON lettering. These are pretty rare and this is the best HT i have come across so far. I also have an unused MrT Special in this same format.

Could you add a picture of the face of the can too? I'm curious about those Demon motors.

These early pre-Sagami ones were Yokomo-based. Quite rare as Demon switched to the red base-plate versions December 1986 - April 1987.

Nick eventually had the tooling done with Sagami to create his own square hole base plate can design which is more common across the later Demon motor range, along with his own unique endbell design.

The square hole can was also famously used by LRP for their motors - another story altogether(!), and by MG on their Super Magnum Eliminator range during 1990.

That's the kiddie , that's exactly the one I ran , I had several of them as the bearings wore out fast probably due to a lack of oil  really great motor in a Hotshot , quite jealous .

I have spent quite some time trying to collect up the various Demon motor (and ESC) iterations from that period. This was just as i was starting out in RC really. My MrT is a red base plate version.

Another unusual variation is a Yokomo style Sagami stamped endbell on a Demon 35T motor.
